Supersub to Superman

STEVEN TAN admits that he is sick and tired of being called the Supersub. Well, he might just have to start getting used to being called Superman.

The 28-year-old was tireless in Tanjong Pagar United's 4-1 victory over Woodlands Wellington in a Tiger Beer Singapore Cup Group B match on Tuesday night.

The Rams' defenders were left chasing shadows as the nippy striker showed delightful touches and dazzling speed to notch a hat-trick, his second of the year.

His 15 goals make him the leading local top scorer.

Said Steven Tan: "During the S-League, I only started a few games. Normally, I came on only during the last 30 minutes.

"But if the coach decides to play me for a full match, I always give nothing less than 100 per cent."

Under former coach Robert Alberts, the crew-cut dynamo had to be content with warming the bench. But he has started the last four matches in the Cup competition under Tohari Paijan.

His international career has also stalled under national coach Barry Whitbread.

With Vincent Subramaniam taking over the Lions' reins in January, Tan may yet get another shot at international glory. He said: "Everybody wants to represent his country of course. That's what I'm working towards."
