Rohacka

Where is it?

Rohacka is small hill, about 4 km south from town Liptovsky Mikulas, situated between villages Plostin and Ilanovo. It is a part of Low Tatras mountains. The top of the hill is in 827 m and take off is in 794 m. The altitude difference between the take of and the landing place is 120 m. The hill is 400 m long. It is the most visited place by local pilots, due to its close distanc from the town and good soaring possibilites. The best wind direction is nort/west, then west and south-west. These directions are here very often, and it make this place very popular for flying. On days with good thermal activity it is possible to get some good lift and fly to Poludnica (mountain behind Rohacka) or Demanovska hora (on the left) and from there go for cross country flight.

How to get there?

By car: For motorway go to Demanovska dolina (Jasna), but after 100 m turn to the left and continue on the road with goes pararel along the motorway, for about 1 km. Then you will come to a crossroad where, you turn to the right and continue straight to the village called Plostin. Now you have 2 posibilites.
1. You go further trough the village ontill you will come to its end, where you will finde a small road on the left witch goes to the ski-slope. The slope is used by local paragliding school and you have good chance to meet some local pilots here.
2. You go futher traugh the village and look for gloceries shop on the left side of the road. It is a white house with sign Plostinka. In front of the shop you must turn to the left and go uphill. After about 100 m you will find a place by the road, where you can park your car. From here you must walk uphill. After about 10 min. you will get to take off area. From here is beautiful view on town, lake and the mountains surroundig the valley. Landing is down on a big meadow or you can land by your car on the right side.

By bus: Use bus #3 for public transport and go to Plostin. When you get there use instructions #1 or 2 for the cars.

Avoid landing on agricultural fields!
