HAMILTON, Ontario (AP) - Center Mark Deyell and defenseman Daniil Markov scored in the third
period to rally the Toronto Maple Leafs to a 2-2 tie with the Edmonton Oilers in the NHL preseason
opener for both teams Saturday night. The Oilers took a 2-0 lead on power-play goals by Kevin
Brown, at 12:52 of the first period, and Roman Oksiuta, at 18:00 of the second period. But the
Maple Leafs, outshot 17-7 in the first period, closed down the Edmonton offense and outshot the
Oilers 9-3 in the third and 31-30 overall. Deyell scored for Toronto at 3:08 of the third and Marov
tied the game on a power play at 16:25. Goaltender Bob Essensa went the distance for the Oilers.
Curtis Joseph started for Toronto and gave way to Francis Larivee at 11:11 of the second period.
