SAN JOSE, Calif. (AP) - Joe Murphy and Brad Stuart scored first-period goals and the San Jose Sharks went on to a 2-1 NHL preseason victory over the Edmonton Oilers on Tuesday night. Murphy opened the scoring 1:45 into the game when he scored from 10 feet out after taking a pass from Marco Sturm. Edmonton center Mark Lamb tied the game at 4:56 off assists from Tom Poti and Mike Grier. San Jose regained the lead at 14:58 of the first when Stuart scored on a power play following assists from Bill Houlder and Sturm. Edmonton held a 24-21 advantage in shots. San Jose's regular goaltender, Mike Vernon, made his first appearance of the preseason and stopped 12-of-13 shots. Eric Fichaud made 19 saves for Edmonton.
