CALGARY, Alberta (AP) - Hours after the Oilers acquired goaltender Mikhail Shtalenkov in a trade,
Edmonton's Bob Essensa turned in another impressive outing in a 4-1 exhibition victory over the
Calgary Flames (2-5-1) on Thursday night. Playing in his third full game of the preseason, Essensa
continued his strong play, making 17 saves and lowering his goals-against average to 0.97. In 185
minutes, Essensa has given up just three goals on 74 shots. Kevin Brown, Dean McAmmond, Boyd
Devereaux and Andrei Kovalenko scored for Edmonton (3-5-1). Marty McInnis was the only Flame
to beat Essensa. The Oilers scored three times against Tyler Moss on just seven shots in the first
period.
