2000 Japan Open

Date: January 4th, 2000

Venue: Yoyogi, Tokyo, Japan

Classification: ISU-Sanctioned Pro-Am

Rules to Note: 3-Triple Maximum in Interpretive Free

Competitors:

Surya skated two great programs, and finished with the bronze medal. She surprised many in the short program by earning a first place ordinal over Michelle Kwan, and 4 out of 5 ordinals above the reigning World Champion, Maria Butyrskaya. Below is all the information I have on Surya's performance, based on the Fuji Television Station's Japanese broadcast of this event. Look for updates (and hopefully pictures!) as I obtain more information.

Review: Fuji showed only Chisato Shiina, Michelle Kwan, and Maria Butyrskaya! However, Surya must have done wonderfully to place second and earn a 1st place ordinal over Michelle Kwan!

Review: Surya looked kind of disappointed after her interpretive free skate. She shouldn't have been - this program really got the sedate Japanese crowd going! Wonderfully done! If she had hit that Triple Loop at the beginning, the ordinals would surely be different.....Surya did very well.
