MARK Philippoussis meets Croatian Goran Ivanisevic in the second round of the Queen's tournament – the man he beat in 1997 to win his first title on grass.
Philippoussis booked his place in the next round with a straight sets win over fellow Australian Wayne Arthurs.
The 11th-seed's 6-3 7-5 win was hard fought.
"It was tough to play Wayne in the first round on grass and it was important to return serve and make him play," Philippoussis told AAP.
"I thought it was a rather good match first up, the first one's always tough obviously but I'm happy with the way I've played today." In other first round matches, US qualifier David Wheaton beat Andreas Vinciguerra of Sweden.
He will meet Australian sixth seed Lleyton Hewitt.
In a shock upset, Britain's eighth seed Tim Henman lost to unknown US qualifier Bob Bryan 7-6 (7-2) 6-4.
Meanwhile, Pete Sampras eventually fended off British qualifier Arvind Parmar 7-6 (8-6) 6-4 6-3
Scud too good for Arthurs at Queen's Club

Australian tennis player Mark Philippoussis has beaten countryman Wayne Arthurs two sets to love in his opening match at the traditional Wimbledon warm-up, the Queen's Club event in London.
Philippoussis, seeded 11th, will play Croatia's Goran Ivanisevic in round two.
In other matches, Britain's eighth seed, Tim Henman, suffered a surprise two-set loss to unknown American qualifier Bob Bryan; Russian seventh seed Marat Safin took three sets to beat Julien Boutter of France and second seed Pete Sampras dropped the first set of his match before winning the next two against British qualifier Arvind Parmar.
Philippoussis defeats fellow Aussie Arthurs at Queens

Mark Philippoussis was the first Australian to win through to the second round at the Queen's Club tournament in London yesterday.
Philippoussis, seeded 11th at the grass court tournament in west London, beat fellow Australian Wayne Arthurs in straight sets 6-3 7-5.
Philippoussis will next play the man he beat when he took the title here in 1997, Croatian crowd favourite Goran Ivanisevic. Today's match opened in breezy conditions and Philippoussis took the opening game with his first ace.
Arthurs was serving strongly and had topped Philippoussis' ace count early in the match but a series of inaccuracies and errors cost him the first set when he allowed Philippoussis to break in the sixth game.
Arthurs tried to apply the pressure to Philippoussis in the second term but the younger player got the first break for a 5-4 lead.
Arthurs broke back to level 5-5 all but Philippoussis broke him in the next game to love and served out the set without dropping another point.
