Scud bows out in semis of Masters Series

Defending champion Mark Philippoussis has crashed out of the Tennis Masters Series in Indian Wells in three sets to Swede Thomas Enqvist.
Enqvist wasted six match points before finishing off the 12th seed.
Enqvist finally put an end to the match with a service return at Philippoussis' feet for a 6-3, 6-7 (6/8), 7-6 (10/8) victory.
"Just after this kind of match, it's hard to describe," Enqvist said.
"I felt like I was almost beating myself today. I think I played a very, very good match... of course it gets frustrating when you're playing well and you can't finish it off."
After breaking Philippoussis in the seventh game of the second set, the 10th-seeded Swede served for the match at 5-4 and dropped his serve to love with four errors.
"I tried to go for my shots," Enqvist said. "Sometimes it works and sometimes it doesn't. Yesterday I finished off with a love game, and today I dropped my serve to love."
He took a 6-1 lead in the tiebreaker, only to lose the next seven points as Philippoussis forced the third set.
Tenth seed Enqvist booked a final showdown with Spain's Alex Corretja who upset eighth seed Nicolas Lapentti of Ecuador 6-3 6-4 today.
Earlier, second seed Lindsay Davenport extended her unbeaten run over Martina Hingis to take the women's final 4-6 6-4 6-0.
Top seed Hingis came into the match with a less than impressive record against Davenport - she had lost four straight matches and eight successive sets to the American, including a straight sets loss in the Australian Open final.
