Spanish Women Master's
10-12th December 1999

Tennis-'Presented' the first Spanish Women Master, in which the six best Spanish tennis players will play.

The Spanish Tennis Federation presented at midday at the Real Club de Tenis Barcelona the first edition of the Spanish Women Master, which will be played in Murcia from the 10th to the 12th of December.

In the competition will play the six best Spanish players (in the WTA ranking as of the 15th of November): Arantxa Sánchez Vicario, Conchita Martínez, Magüi Serna, María Antonia Sánchez, Cristina Torrens and Gala León.

The two first seeded, Arantxa and Conchita, will play directly the semifinals on
Saturday.

Agustín Pujol, president of the Spanish Federation, said that the Women Master was a dream that the Federation has had since the Men Master has been played (this year, the sixth edition). Pujol wanted to thank Arantxa and Conchita's participation in this
first edition, and also the facility that the city of Murcia has given to hold this tournament.

Arantxa, who was also in the presentation, said that it's a wonderful initiative and she hopes that this tournament will be played from now on: "There aren't many chances of seeing the players (women) playing in Spain. It's wonderful and I hope that this tournament
will be played for many years".

The player joked when she was asked how many Spanish Masters she would play
in the future after the rumours of her retirement. "At the moment I'm going to play this one. I hope to play as many Masters as possible. Do you want to retire me?", she said laughing.

This first edition will be played at the Palacio de los Deportes de Murcia, on hard court.
