In a Nutshell

This year's UVA team is loaded with talent. Demya Walker not only provides a powerful offensive arsenal, but she is a definite shot blocker. Mo Foote returns giving a major spark, and Erin Stovall is perhaps the most underrated player in the nation. Make sure you check out Demya Walker in SLAM this month. (See www.slamonline.com)

Q.Do you plan to continue with basketball after you finish your career at UVA? Do you have an ideal team?
A.Yes, anywhere on the East Coast would be ideal.
Q.We enjoyed UVA girl's basketball camp this past summer, and we would like to know if you have any sisters or brothers that play basketball, and are they as gifted as you?
A.I have brothers but they all played football and they are very talented.
Q.Do you think that women's basketball or any women's sport gets the same recognition as the men's sports from the school?
A.I think that UVa tries to give womens sports the same recognition but mens sports still lead the way in todays society, so womens sports have to continue to grow until things change. It definitely is a positive, though.
Q.Looks like you can have 2 futures.(playing pro ball or going to law school) What are your plans/priorities to balance this act?
A.Well, I want to play in the WNBA in the summer and attend law school in the fall and spring.
Q.I've been a fan of yours since high school. You motivated me to be the best player that I could be. Do you think that you will take basketball to the next level, WNBA or ABL, and motivate other aspiring athletes?
A.First, Beth it is great to hear from you! Second, I definitely want to go to the WNBA and if I could, I would motivate every aspiring athlete to aim for beyond the stars and then go after each and every goal.
Q.When UVA is beating an opponent by a large margin, does the team set mini-goals at half-time to maintain their intensity and focus? For example, against Towson, did Coach Ryan challenge the team to hold Towson to under 40 points for the game?
A.Yes, we set mini goals, but the players set the goals.
Q.For which professional team in the USA would you like to be playing after graduation? Have you been contacted by any yet (specifically the Charlotte Sting!)?
A.I would like to play for any team on the East coast or any place because it is an extension to play the game that I adore deeply.
Q.I really just want to say that I love UVa women's basketball, and I wish you all the best of luck. My question, though, is: Is anyone disappointed with this season's start? And, if so, do you think it will motivate the team to do even better throughout the rest of the season? Most importantly, GO WAHOOS!!! One more thing: What has been your most memorable experience at Virginia?
A.Yes, we are disappointed with how the season started, but it is definitely motivational factor to continue to get better. My most memorable experience at Virginia was breaking the blocked shots record.
Q.Just wanted to let you know that you have come a long way since freshman year in high school! I'm proud of you! Love, Maggie T. (RVRHS Basketball, Rosemont College Basketball)
A.You helped keep me in the sport because you helped make it fun to play and to come to practice. So thank you! It was really nice to hear from you. Tell your parents and everyone I said hello. Good luck with school, basketball and graduation.
Q.Now that you are a senior, have the goals that you set for your self when you were a freshmen changed?
A.No, my goals have remained the same, but I have added new goals as my game has grown. A person should always be able or chose to strive to be better. You cant stop learning.
