Well a lot has happened to the Heels and Nikki in particular this 1999 season. Things didn't get off to a great start with Nikki often being benched for failing to meet fitness regulations (she started 8 out of the Heels 12 first games). Still Teasley managed to lead the Heels at the point, averaging 14 points a game, and leading in both assists and steals. Then Teasley was suspended for a game against Virginia which turned into an ordeal. Citing personal reasons, Teasley took an indefinite leave of absence on January 5th. Neither Hatchell, Teasley, or the university commented furthur. Without their main threat Carolina struggled, losing four out of five critical games without Nikki. Finally on January 23rd, the UNC Sports Information Staff reported Nikki would return to the basketball team on a limited basis beginning Monday. Hopefully she will then go on to compete with the team. They sure need her and she needs them too. Teasley now looks to pick up where she left off, trying to push away the pressure of balancing life as a college student with that of life as a basketball star.
