Duffer News, Issue Number 99!

The first issue of the modern Duffer News hit the locker rooms in April 1994. (There was a pre-computer Duffer News in the early 80s.) The 4 page issue was dedicated to the adventures of our first team trip to Hayward. Duffer News was written in Greek letters.
There was a one page missal called the Hayward Gazette that came out the week before, so if we count that as the first Duffer News, then the issue you are now reading is the 99th!
The Duffer News started out as a multi page monthly journal. In September of 1995 it became
a weekly newsletter. That first Issue featured the following headlines: Duffers Near Silver Anniversary Season, Duffers Win Road Game, Hat Trick for Mazurk, 2 Minutes for looking Cross Eyed at the Referee, I Can Drive, I Didnt Eat Anything, Top Ten Reasons Not to Go to Hayward and Revenge of the Wheezer. Here is an except from that Inaugural Issue. Penalty Killing Specialists .....Tweedy said, . Koss got 2 minutes for looking cross eyed at the ref. We scored a short handed goal, and one of their players asked to decline the next penalty. Harvey and Wheezer killed off a minute and a half of that penalty. They demonstrated the ultimate in stay at home defense. No matter how many plays the Muskies tried, the two specialist refused to chase. They then turned it over to Ken and Tom, who went on to score a couple of conventional goals, and a wrap-around. We finished them off with Dan upstairs in the Beer Contest and our 163 year old line of Harvey, Beak, and Giffune. One of their players said, We are loosing to our Fathers. Stump Was On Fire The Only thing the young Muskies couldn't do was beat Stump.

The Muzzy Blues put the Whites away with three meaningful goals. The Beer Nuts goal was disputed because is vanished from view for a while but it came rolling out of the Ghosts sheet and The Beer man poked it in. There was no dispute on the Wheezer and Hit Man goals, but then who would be crazy enough to to tell Wheezer his goal was no good. The Blues also won the meaningless contest with goals by Robby, Johnny Z and Jerry O. That Jerry O is getting to be a real pain. I heard talk of putting a bounty on him. Tom Morgan and Beak Jr.had the only goals on Eddie the Anvil. We only had 2 lines again for the 3rd straight week.
Tweedy, Tommy Z and Rick Dzingle were in Arizona watching the Hawks and Cubs. The Prince is in Atlanta trying to open a restaurant for the 96 olympics. Where is everybody? Hayward Next Week The luxury coach leaves the Oakbrook shopping center at 9:30 AM on Friday morning March 14 th and returns on the 16th.
