| Good news for all of you guys that missed the Columbus road trip. You have 9 weeks to think of a reason to miss the trip to Peoria on April 2, 1999. Here are some common excuses that won�t work. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||

| Here is the deal. The Chill will arrive in Peoria on Friday, 4/2/99, for their game on Saturday night. Donny said he can get some ice from the coach of the Peoria Rivermen. We will probably play on Friday and Saturday. We will go to the Chill-Rivermen game on Saturday night at 7:30 p.m. We will depart for home after the team mass on Easter Sunday. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||

| The Columbus trip got in off to a slow start because of all of the fog that surrounded Midway Airport. We were forced to sit around and drink Bloody Marys while Mazurk and Klinger served us hot dogs and pizza. (Thanks Guys) We found out that road trips don't really have to go anywhere. We had more fun at Midway airport as Larry spilled his Bloody Mary and Bill dropped pizza. Muzzy and Larry used a broom and mop to cleanup. We laughed so hard the bartender cut us off. We asked to see the manager, and she said the bartender was jealous because we were having way too much fun. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| We moved onto our loading area only to find that the airplane we were waiting for was delayed and couldn't land because of fog, so our afternoon ice time was canceled. Now we were just hoping to | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| make the Chill game at 7:30 Eastern time. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| We finally boarded the plane and as we started to backup, all of the Duffers started saying to beep, beep, beep, beep. Everybody laughed and we were off to Columbus. Drinks were free because of the delay. Klinger had a pocket full of free drink tickets that we had to use on the way home. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| We arrived in Columbus at 7 o'clock, and the Chill Van was waiting for us with a chauffeur named Philip Morris. I don�t have to tell you what happened next, but I will. "Call For Philip Morris" We headed for the rink and arrived just a few minutes into the game. We were impressed at how the ECHL had cleaned up it�s play since the SLAP SHOT days. Players took hard checks and skated away without any retaliatory action. We found out later that we missed a brawl with the Chiefs in the first shift. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| After the game, we went to check into our motel where we paired up smokers and nonsmokers, snorers and non-snorers, whiners and non-whiners. Wheezer requested a whiner since he is used to rooming with Koss. Beer Nuts volunteered to whine and smoke so he was paired with | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| Wheezer. We went out to eat after 11:00 and we found that almost everything was closed. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| We finally found a place that had appetizers and drinks so we stayed there. Larry spilled a beer and Shattered an ash tray. We went to sleep with sides hurting from laughter. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| We were worried about not having a goalie, so we found a guy in the stands who was willing to play and then Donny found us a girlfriend of one of his players who was willing to play. We ended up with three goalies. It worked out well, as one goalie showed up 15 minutes after we starter playing. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| The White team had Carrie in the nets and Blues had Rick "Gilbert" Felman�s nephew Phil LaPoint. We played four on four for an hour and a half until our legs were rubbery. Then Donny and a couple of his players joined us. They seemed faster than us, probably because they weren't as tired as we were. Klinger scored 3 goals against Carrie and 1 more on the replacement goalie. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| Beak broke out of his slump with four goals after Donny set him up for an easy tap in. Wheezer could have had a few goals but he preferred to hit Carrie with the puck and then, with mock concern, he offered to rub the place that hurt. Hacksaw had of bunch of assists, as did Beer nuts. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||

| We found a great place to eat on Saturday night. Wheezer was too tired to eat, so he stayed in the room and watched Cammi score a goal in the Legends game, while we had a feast at the Engine House #5 in Germantown, Ohio. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| You may remember the quote of the Green Bay trip, when Wheezer said, "I don�t get full, I just get tired of eating." | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| We really missed our young skaters in Columbus. That was evident by the average age of the trip participants which was 51.8 years. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| The King suggested that Beak should have some in-service training for the younger Duffers who are having problems getting away. Maybe Beak's wife could help some of the younger wives and girlfriends. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
