Interview with Kevin Randleman
By Rainbowthief
A brief phone interview with Kevin Randleman
I spoke
with Kevin earlier tonight.First of all, I'd like to thank him
again for talking
with me. He was very attentive and when he put me on
hold to take another
call, he was very apologetic about it (which wsn't
necessary).
Here are some of the things he said, maybe not in exact
order, but as close to
verbatim as I can get since I didn't tape it:
Kevin What's your name online?
Me-- Rainbowthief
Kevin-- So, what do you want to ask me to prove I'm
Kevin Randleman?
Me-- I don't doubt your identity, I just want to ask
questions.
Kevin-- What do you wanna know?
Me-- Are you going to just rest or start training again for
another fight?
Kevin-- I'm always in training. That's what I do. I'm an
athlete, a trainer.
That, and I write children's books.
ME-- Anything published?
Kevin-- Yeah, it's what I do, but I don't wanna tell people
what name I use for
that.
Me-- I understand. Are you going to fight again though?
Kevin-- No. I mean, imagine giving your heart and
then...look, I don't take
anything away from Bas, but he didn't hurt me.
Me-- I didn't get a chance to see the fight, I live in an
area that where the
UFC is banned...
Kevin--(Interrupts) You should contact SEG about that.
Me-- ...yeah, I have to wait for the videotape. What I
wanted to ask was, I
read that you broke Bas' nose, yet he was allowed to
continue, even though
UFC rules stipulate that the fight should've been stopped
with you declared
the winner. Did that upset you?
Kevin-- No, not at all. I would hope they would've allowed
the same for me.
We where there to fight.
Me-- Do you have a fight lined up?
Kevin-- No, I'm not fighting again. Not for SEG, not for...
Me-- (Interrupting Kevin) You're never fighting again?
Kevin-- Well, look. After this...listen, I just want to get
back to my life.
Me-- Would you consider doing seminars to teach others?
Kevin-- I'm doing that now.
Me-- What about wrestling? Several top NHB fighters
continue to wrestle
competitively. Would you consider that?
Kevin-- I am a wrestler. I understand what you're saying,
but you know, I
wrestle with some of the best wrestlers in the world as
part of my training, so
I haven't been away. I'm still young, so yeah, I could
wrestle again. After
what just happened to me though, I just want to do what
I did before all this.
Me-- Well, thanks a lot, Kevin. Good luck with whatever
you do.
Kevin-- All right, thanks. Same to you.
And that was it. Kevin never rushed me, and seemed ready
to talk more, but I
ended it out of consideration to anyone else who wanted
to call him, and to
Kevin too, of course.
