History of Gracie JJ

The History Of Gracie JJ

This is a documentary of the formation of GJJ in Japanese. Despite this, this doc. is one of my most favorite vids I own. I am a lover of NHB challenge matches and historical footage, and this tape is loaded w/ historical footage.

Numerous techniques are demonstrated by a young Helio Gracie in grainy black and white video. Many of the techniques of today's BJJ self defense tapes are demonstrated by Helio. He does a good number of judo throws, self defense moves, and the most violent flying armbar I have ever seen.

Now, this is NOT an instructional, but and EXCELLENT doc. The match w/ Kato (as seen on GIA 1) is here along w/ some footage of the Kimura fight. Also, there are too many pictures and newspaper clippings to count, shame they are in poruguese and translated in japanese.

There is a long interview w/ Helio; I don't have a clue what is said due to the fact this is in portuguese w/ a Japanese voice over. There are also interviews w/ Royce and Rorian, but the voice over basically is too loud to hear them.

ALso on the tape is footage of some very young gracies. It's funny watching kids of about 2-3 "sparring." Footage of today's Helio demonstrating moves on Royce and Rorian is also present. There is some limited footage of Royce sparring as well as some footage from the UFCs and,I beleive, the "Gracie Intermediate Bonus Tape." This documentary focuses on Helio, Royce, and Rorian. There is little if any pictures of any of the other gracies. Despite this, and the fact that it is in Japanese, I give this tape my highest recomendation, especially if you like historical footage, like me.
