PCC MEMBERS TO RACE?

The Summer is upon us and it is time to make our plans for rafting out. Several People have suggested we have a "Race to the Rockpile" for fun. The details have not been worked out at this time, but it sounds like a very good idea. We would all start at the same time and the first one to the destination would be the winner. We have even discussed getting a small trophy and awarding it to the winner. The winner would keep the trophy until the next year and have bragging rights for that year. Each Year we could place the winners name on the trophy for a small fee and start a tradition. Since this race would be for fun, we need to come up with some rules that are flexible enough to allow each person the opportunity to win the trophy and have his or her name placed on the Trophy. We don’t want the same person winning over and over since this Race would be just for fun; and that is what our Club is all about FUN!!! Everyone think about it and give me some feedback. It has been suggested we have more than one race. That is okay too, if that is what everyone wants to do. But lets remember this Club was established to have FUN and get away from the strict rules established by other Clubs.

WE’RE ON THE INTERNET NOW!!!

As most of you know, half of our membership is on the InterNet. The InterNet is growing by leaps and bounds. So, in an effort to stay abreast of the times the PCC now has it’s own InterNet Address and Web Site. The PCC’s email address is: [email protected] and anyone can send electronic mail to us that is on the InterNet. The PCC Web Site address is: http://www.geocities.com/Colosseum/Field/9579, both addresses are case sensitive so be sure to type it in just as you see it here. I have been working on our Web Site using photographs I happened to have at home. I need photos of each member’s boat and/or themselves. It would also help me very much if you would send me something you would like to be written on your page. That’s right I am trying to set up a Page for each member. I have run into one problem, some of you have changed your email address and I’m not able to send you email. Please call me at home or better yet; send me an email to [email protected] and I can get the address off of your email. Or, you can go to your Web Site, click on members, then click on my name, then at the bottom of the page you can click on email to me and send it that way. If anyone has any suggestions for our Web Site please let me know.

We have some interesting hyper links on our Web Site, so if you need help getting parts for your boat, questions about U.S.C.G. regulations, looking for a Power Boat or Sailboat to Charter for your vacation, need a flag made for your boat, or just want to see pictures of the new boats coming out; visit your Web Site. It’s there for you. If you are surfing the InterNet and find a site that you think should be linked to ours, then send me an email and I’ll see what I can do about adding it. I have not started advertising our Site yet, but when it is completed I will see about getting someone to sponsor us and helping with the advertising. For those of you that are on the InterNet, and want a permanent email address at no charge. Send me an email at [email protected] and I’ll give you the address of two (2) sites that offer FREE email addresses. I know you wonder why you need another email address. Well, if you have a permanent email address then when you change service providers you don’t have to change your email address. If you put your email address on your business cards it can get rather expense ordering new cards everytime you change service providers. Also I know of a site that offers FREE space for a Web Site. Yep, I said FREE. So if you would like to have your very on Web Site, I can show you where to go and how to do it.

FIRST MEETING OF 1997

A meeting is schedule for April 5, 1997 at 9:30 am at the Pickwick Cove Marina Dock to discuss the 1997 raft-up schedule, the Fun-Race, the InterNet and Web Site, flag design for the Club, dues, and anything else that might come up. Attached you will find the tentative schedule for 1997. I really didn’t know how everyone wanted to do it this year and we haven’t received the PYC’s Racing Schedule for 1997; so I couldn’t make any special considerations for the Racers. If for some odd reason I just haven’t gotten the schedule yet and it is out, please send me a copy or bring me a copy to the meeting. We can change the schedule anyway the members agree on. It won't be that hard to change. You can also bring any pictures you might want me to put on the Web Site with you and I’ll get them back to you as soon as possible. If you have someone that would like to join our Club, bring them to meeting.

PICKWICK COVE MARINA SOLD

Boat Owners and Slip Renters at the Pickwick Cove Marina have been waiting a long time now to find out if the Marina was going to be sold or not. Well, the last word I had in February was the Marina had been sold and they were just trying to get the final okay from the EPA and complete some paperwork. In fact by the time this Newsletter reaches most of you, we should have new owners. I talked with Mr Callins, one of the new owners, and the new Manager, Tommy Henton. They assured me that numerous improvements would be made to the Marina. And yes, the slip fees will be going up. These improvements will be made in Stages, however they were not at liberty to discuss their plans in depth at that time. I have offered to help pass the word on the changes through this Newsletter and through our Web Site. Mr Callins thought that was a good idea. So if they take us up on our offer, I will gladly keep every one of our members posted of any new developments at the Pickwick Cove Marina.

THANK YOU

As some of you know Barbara was recently in the hospital. We would like for everyone to know she is doing fine and all your prayers were greatly appreciated. It was a very trying time for our family, but through the grace of God everything worked out. Barbara has so many friends that I wasn’t sure how I was gong to get all the flowers home from the hospital. And she was only there for a day and a half. Again we would like to Thank everyone very much for their cards, flowers, phone calls, visits, and prayers. It’s very comforting to know that you have friends that you can count on in times of need or trouble.

IT’S YOUR NEWSLETTER

Remember folks, anyone who would like to get something into the Newsletter need only send us the information and we’ll get it out to everyone. I know there are several people out there that are trying to sell their boat and move up to a bigger one. Give me the information on your boat and the kind of boat you are looking for and I’ll get it in the Newsletter. You never know, one of the other members might like to have your boat, or might know of the exact location, type, and model of the boat you are looking for. We are still working on the Roster, but we are getting close to completion. If any of your previous information has changed please let me know before we distribute the roster.

Be Safe........... and we’ll see you on the Lake.
