Tim and Barbara Cook - Secretaries February 14, 1999

First Meeting of 1999

The first meeting of 1999 for the Pickwick Cruising Club (PCC) will be on Saturday, May 8, 1999 at 10:00 am on “B” Dock at Aqua Yacht Harbor on or near the Serendipity II.   This week end will not conflict with the PYC Racing Schedule as far as I know. When the PCC was formed, everyone at that first meeting agreed that this Club was not being formed to take the place of any other Clubs already in existence, but to add another dimension to our great lake facilities and activities. It was formed with the goal in mind of everyone being able to participate, make new friends, have fun, and be very affordable. We have accomplished nearly all of our original goals, however we do not seem to be passing the word about our Club like we should. Think about that.

Raft-up locations

Several people have suggested rafting up at a new spot for the PCC . It is a Cove close to the Dam, however very few of us know where this Cove is located. We hope someone will bring up this location during the meeting so we can add this location to our Raft-up Schedule. Remember if you arrive at the Raft-Up location and no one is there, don’t leave if that was your intention to raft up. Go ahead and drop anchor, someone will be along sooner or later to raft-up. If you are in the wrong spot or we need more room we can adjust as everyone arrives. Remember you get there when you want to and you leave when you want to. Some of us might be a little more anxious than others, but everyone will get there in their own sweet time.

Fill-up the Cove

Our Membership has grown quite a bit since our humble beginning. We now see a real need does exist for this Cruising Club. At times we have had so many boats rafted up in Whetstone Cove that it was very hard to maneuver in and out of the Cove. During the 1999 season we would like to see the PCC fill up the Cove one weekend so everyone will know this Cruising Club is no flash in the pan. So, be thinking of which weekend we might attempt this feat and we’ll discuss it at the First Meeting of 1999. If you would like to get a head start on everyone or you have some other suggestions to be brought up at the meeting, you can send us an email at [email protected].

1999 Dues

The PCC does not see any need at this time to go up on our dues, however we do need to start collecting our 1999 dues. The dues are only $20 a year and that is less than 6% of the Pickwick Yacht Club Dues. So send your dues in now, or if you don’t want to write a check you can pay with cash at the first meeting. We will pass out the 1999 Membership Cards as your dues are collected. The Membership Cards will be just like last year’s and will have the Raft-up dates and locations on the back of them for your convenience.

PCC Web Site

The PCC Web Site is coming along very well, however we need good photographs to put on the Web Site of our members boats and family. The Web Site now has it's own Classified Ads Page and Boats For Sale Page, so sign on and take a look. Or better yet send us your information and photographs on the items you have to sell; including your boat information. We have received email from as far away as Canada to our north, Boston to our east, and California to our west asking about our Club and commenting on our members boats. We have the capabilities of scanning your pictures into the computer and we will get your photographs back to you as soon as possible. If you have your own Web Site or are trying to get one up and running, we are sure Tim would try and help you. Our Web Site address is http://www.geocities.com/ Colosseum/Field/9579. Some of you might be wondering why our Web Site address is so long. Well, it is simple. This is a free Web Site. We do not have to pay for this site, so we don’t have to pass on any cost to our membership. Also, the PCC Secretary maintains our site for free. We also have a free email address which is [email protected]. Check out your Web Site and give your Webmaster some feedback.

Newsletter

Remember folks, anyone that wants something to go into the News Letter, need only send us the information and we’ll get it out to everyone. Fill out your information sheet and send it to us so we can get the roster completed for everyone. And if you miss place or forget your Raft-Up Sheet and need to know where everyone is going to be on a particular weekend, there will be copies posted at the State Park Information Office, State Park Marina Office, Tenn-Tom Marina Bulletin Board, and at the Cafe St Claire Bulletin Board at Aqua Yacht Harbor Marina. Pass the word, we are off and cruising. Summer, friends, and fun are just around the corner and you don’t want to miss any of it.

PCC Mailing Address

Any correspondence such as membership dues, information for the newsletter, photographs you want scanned, problems with our Web Site, or any other mail can be sent to: Pickwick Cruising Club, 4046 Muirfield Drive, Memphis, TN, 38125-5217.

Prayers for PCC Members

I would like to thank everyone for their prayers concerning Barbara and let everyone know she is doing well. I would also like to ask everyone to keep Steve & Bonnie Spraker, and Mike & Pam Rodgers in your prayers. This has been a tough year for some of our PCC Members, but with a little help it will get better.

Be Safe........... and we’ll see you on the Lake.
