A
girls' gymnastic school in the 1900's had clubs and dumbbells to strengthen
and flex your arms and shoulders. There were very few exercises for the
rest of the body. They also had parallel bars, rings, and wall bars that
are still seen today in some gyms.
Gymnastics Today
Today,
gymnastics is much more competitive, and fun. It is a popular sport for
girls and boys of all ages.
Girls'
Artistic Gymnastics- When the girls work on
only 4 pieces of equipment. The floor, uneven bars, balance beam, and the
vault.
Boys'
Artistic Gymnastics- When the boys work on
6 pieces of equipment. The floor, rings, horizontal bar, pommel horse,
parallel bars, and the vault.
Rhythmic
Gymnastics- Is a discipline for girls. It
requires good flexibility, and it involves many dance moves. They work
on a ball, hoop, rope, ribbon, or clubs.
Sports
Acrobatics- Boys and girls usually work as
a team. A major part of this sport is balances. It also involves gymnastic
skills, and dance moves.
