5/23/06 Sub State Round 1 - Thomas Jefferson
We beat AL on Saturday in double OT and won the opportunity to advance to the 1st Round of Sub State against Thomas Jefferson.  We lost to TJ just a week ago 1-0.  We travel again to their house with the hope to advance to Sub State Championship in Sioux City.  Well tonight was the perfect example to use when you tell your team it don't matter what you do and how much you control the game, it is the final score that matters.  Soccer is a cruel sport, as it only takes one play, one break away, to take you down.  Tonight we dominated the first 20 minutes of the game, we played the whole half at their end but time after time, shot after shot came away empty handed.  Then with 18 minutes left in the first half, we make a mistake going to the ball, a bad clear on defense and they are off to the races and one on one with Riley Landolt.  They put it away and are up 1-0.  From there they are all defense, boom ball, and keep away.  It becomes a very frustrating game to play, watch, and coach.  We mount attack after attack, one bad pass, or lose the 50/50 ball and they send it the other way and you start the effort all over again.  They score their second goal late in the second half and we start subbing to give everyone that opportunity to play in their last game of the season.  We out shot them once again 17 to 6.  They put away 2 and we can't answer.  It is not the type of end to a season that one wants to see.  The way it ended is hard, emotions are high and things are said.  You don't get a chance to talk to the team, or say goodbye the way you would like to.  We feel bad for our Seniors who just played their last high school game.  We want to say goodbye to Dan Fisher, Alex O'Neill, Zach Duyson, & Pablo Navarrete.  We will have our year end appreciation and awards party at Pizza King again this year.  We will confirm a date with them and then call everyone with the details. Also check back here for the date as well.

Thank you to the parents for your support and for staying with us this year.  We want to THANK YOU for all of the meals that you provided the team this year as well.  It is a great time for the kids and is a time to build as a team.

Thank you all for your support and your visits to our page. Keep checking back I will post different things off and on.  Interested in how the boys did and what they look like, then check out the 2006 Varsity Squad & Stats and 2006 Junior Varsity Squad & Stats pages to see our running season stats.
