Now for the game. We took the next step, one step closer to state, one game to go. We fought a greatly improved team from last year and a team that is only in their second year at the school. Atlantic played hard and smart tonight and we were proud to play them. We played very hard the first 15 minutes of the game, moving the ball, talking, and making smart passes. Finally at the 21:05 mark we get our first goal. It all started with the hard work of Kyle Larkin working very hard to get the ball to their end in the corner. He worked to the corner, beat the defender and started walking toward the goal. He sent the ball back to Nate Jones, Nate touched the ball over to Adam Larkin and Adam puts in the first goal. Nice combination by all three. At the 19 minute mark Chris Navarrete gets called for the foul, gets a yellow card, and they award Atlantic a Penalty kick. Riley Landolt makes a great diving save, the ball rebounds out and Atlantic gets there for a second shot but Riley is up quickly and smothers the ball. We go into the half up 1-0 and I am not a happy camper. This is going to be a dog fight and they came to play. We stopped talking and started playing sloppy soccer. We will need a quick goal if we are going to take any wind out of the sail at all. 11 minutes in the second half Nate Jones and Adam Larkin hook up again for Adams second goal of the game and Nate's second assist. This goal was all set up by Nate's solid hustle. The game is clearly now under control, at the 10 minute mark I start subbing in the bench to get everyone into the game. We get our third goal at the 3:23 mark off a throw in to Kyle Herrin who sends in a beautiful cross ball to far post. Jaymison Coffelt was there to tap in the goal, 3-0. Congratulations to Jaymison , his first varsity goal. Time runs out and we win the opportunity to advance to the Sub State Championship against St Albert's at Nodaway. Riley Landolt logs his 7 shutout of the season and 19th of his career. St Albert's beat Glenwood tonight 1-0. The game will be at 6:30. We have been here before, have not been able to finish. These type of opportunities only come so often. We need to imbalish the opportunity and take advantage. Please plan to join us and bring your support for the team. |
