Coach's Comments
2006 Titans

  5/16/06 Thomas Jefferson
We finished off the regular season tonight on the road as we traveled to cross town rival Thomas Jefferson.  We are missing head coach Sid Leytham on the sidelines due to a red card on Saturday so it is up to the players, coach Jerry Willer, and coach Dan Gulden to bring it all together.  After three tough losses over the weekend we need to get on track and bounce back.  We play tonight for self pride, team pride, and the City Championship, all on the line.  We start out slow, not playing as a team, weak communication, and TJ sneaks in an early one and we go down again.  It is hard to win a city game when you are fighting back and always trying to play catch up.  We had a little talk at the half and asked them to look inside to see what we could muster up.  We made an adjustment with 20 minutes left in the game to go on the attack and push the ball forward.  It took us until there were 4 minutes left in the game to figure it out and finally started to press, too little, too late.  Yes I do have to say we did have our opportunities again, and yes we were in the game to the end.  We fought hard, just not hard enough.  I believe that we had more to give and we still haven't played 80 minutes of soccer.  We might still be suffering from the weekend were we played our starters in three tough games.  We lose the game 0-1 but now we move on.  Any way CONGRATULATIONS on still finishing the regular season with a winning record of 8-5.  We are now 0-0 and start the playoffs on Saturday as AL comes to our field for round 1.  Saturdays game will be at 10am.  It is all on the line now, Win and you advance, lose and you are done.  Please come join us and support the Titans as we take our first step on the road to State.

JV on the other hand - CONGRATULATIONS on finishing with a winning record and the City Championship.  JV played their hearts tonight and worked well together to pull this one off.  Scott Nelson puts in his second goal of the season on a free kick again and we go up 1-0 before the half.  We started subbing the second half and working to get everyone in the last game of the season.  We got everyone in and hung on to log the win.  We had a little let down the second half with 3:30 left in the game.  We get called for a hand ball in the goal area and they are awarded a PK.  They hit the pole and we manage to hang on.  Within a stretch of about 5 minutes we get 3 yellow cards and I look back and realize I have no more subs.  We can't afford another yellow.  We went into a defensive set at the end and just tried to preserve the win.  This was something new and we were playing confused for awhile.  It is something we don't practice just talk about doing with the JV.  So they adjusted well eventually and we hung on.  Zane Brugenhemke logged his 4 shut out of the season and played well tonight with 7 saves.  Good season Zane ending with giving up .88 Goals per Game.   We won and JV is now done for the season.  We would like all of JV to report to practice on Wednesday please.  Congratulations again on the win and the city championship.
