  5/13/06 Norwalk Tournement
We went on the road today to play in our first tournament of the year. We traveled to Norwalk with an 8-1 record and high hopes of winning big.  We played three very tough games and left everything we had on the field.  We come home 8-4, sore, beat up, down, and 1 concussion.   We played Nevada first, gave up an early goal at the 14 minute mark and couldn't answer.  We came out slow again but finished strong at the end.  We had several opportunities and felt that we easily could have won this one 2 or 3 to 1.   The next game we take on Des Moines Lincoln in the losers bracket.  This time we start out good in the first half and then let down in the second.  Defensively we play well and control the back but just seem to generate the offense we need to win one.  The game ends in a tie after regulation and two overtimes so we are into a shootout.  In the shootout we get goals by Pablo Navarrete, Kyle Herren, Adam Larkin, and Evan Summy.  We are still tied after the first 5 kickers.  We miss our next PK and they manage to put there's in the net.  Lose #2 and a huge let down after working as hard as we did.  This game took a lot out of us.  Game 3, time to step up or get on the bus and go home.  Step up we did as we came to play now.  At the 10 minute mark we go on the board first as Adam Larkin plays the ball through to Dan Fisher and he finds himself one on one with the keeper.  We win this one and we are up 1-0.  Goal 2 comes just 2 minutes later.  We moved Nate Jones up to Varsity this weekend to get him an opportunity to play up.  Play he did, he hooks up with Tae You Kim on a great crossing ball into the middle.  Tae You is there, he gathers in the ball, looks, and puts it away.  We are up 2-0 and yelling keep it up, keep it up.  Well keep it up did, just 2 minutes on a free kick after a foul we call Red Sea.  Cory Jasek sends the ball into the middle, Tommy VonMende meets the ball and heads it forward to Dan Fisher who plays through and hits it home.  3 goals in 4 minutes and feeling good.  We start subbing to get in some fresh legs and get everyone a chance to play.  Then 10 minutes  later they put in their first goal and we a up 3-1.  We switch out keepers and time to give Zane Brugenhemke a little time in the goal.  Zane barely gets in and the send in a corner kit that makes it way to the goal untouched and we are at 3-2.  Moments later Zach Dyson breaks through and is on his way to goal, the keeper comes out to meet him and Dyson goes down as he takes the shot.  The ball bounces off the keeper, Dyson lands on the keeper and Chris Wenck is there to put away the follow up.  We go up 4-2 and feeling good.  The half is almost over and they manage to put one more in before the half and we go into the half up 4-3 after being up 3-0.  We come out at the half on our heels and 2 minutes in they tie up the game at 4.  You guessed it, another OT.  At this point we are really dragging and looking for about anything.  It was really showing that the day was wearing on us and three games and two OT was just about all we wanted in one day.  The OT starts and less then two minutes in they send in a shot from about 35 yards out with the wind at their back and it goes in the net.  Game 3 over, weekend over.  It was a tough one to swallow but we learned a few things today about ourselves and hopefully set us up for the final season run.  We also moved up Nate Draeger this weekend to varsity.  He got some playing time today and looked good while he was in there.  Defensively, Chris Navarrete, Brandon Duffy, Alex O'Neill, Evan Summy and Kyle Kerrin we played a pretty solid game.  This was a very tough weekend on us.  You play three games as well and as close as we did and couldn't walk away with a win.  We have had a lot of close ones this year and have found what we needed to win, not today.  We will take on cross town rival Thomas Jefferson on Tuesday at their house.  It will start with JV at 4:30.
