4/29/08 - Atlantic
The At city field, beautiful evening (finally) to have a game. LC
started the game off with the most communication and best ball movement the
coaches have seen all year. Players were helping one another by letting
them know if there was a man on , time, or they could turn. This type
of communication, leads to togetherness, which leads to ball movement and
possession. Our possession in the first half was excellent, ball
movement, excellent, and we saw more combination passing and 1-2’s then we
have all year. Quite frankly, it was a pleasure to watch. Zachary
Shea flicks a ball on from a beautiful throw from Tom Turgeau, Kyle Larkin
drops the hammer and puts it away. Well done gents!! Well
executed!!! We introduced multiple players into the lineup, many in
different rolls and some back from injury. We seemed to tire in
the 2nd half of the game. Our fatigue led to a loss of communication,
which led to a loss of possession and ball movement. In my last
comments I spoke about taking ownership. I will take the blame for this
loss as I did not go to our role/bench players to spell the 1st team like I
should have. We have some quality players, who buy in to our philosophy and
I should have trusted our bench and given the starters some needed
rest. This is my fault, I take full responsibility, it will not happen
again and guys , I apologize for this. Two defensive mistakes
ultimately led to Atlantic winning the game 2-1. Both mistakes were honest
mistakes and can be easily corrected. A guy is not supposed to dribble
thru 2 defenders and the Goalkeeper. Again, correctable and fatigue was
a major factor in the play. Though you may not think , I liked what I
saw from our team in the first half. The combination play we saw in
that first half was outstanding and I something we can build off of. If
we can find a way to believe in each other, trust each other, and put
together 2 halves like the first half of the Atlantic game, we will be a very
successful team. Do not look at our record as LC has had teams go 10-1
and fall in the first round of the playoffs. I have had 6-8 teams make
it to the final. It is all about momentum and We have 2 weeks to get
things together. Let’s keep improving, learn from our mistakes, and
take out our frustration on our next opponent. Join us as we go on the
road Thursday to travel to Denison.
This will be a COED match with the boys playing first at 4:30.
