2006 Titans

   4/21/06 - St Alberts
Well it was as good as the weather can get tonight, and at the end it was a win.  Cross town rival St Alberts came to our field tonight, and like every time before, they came to play.  We managed to hang on and were able to find a way win.  The last time we beat St Alberts in the regular season was 3-1 in 2002.  This was a special win all the way around.  3-1 sure sounds a whole lot better then 2-2.  It has to be a sign of something when you don't play your best ball and still win.  I am happy with the win  but there are still some things we really need to work on.  We didn't talk tonight which leads to missed passes.  Missed passes are caused by pressure, and pressure they did.  The reason you are pressured is because we are trying to out dribble the opponent.  Too many touches, lead to pressure, leads to missed passed.  It all adds up.  We were out hustled, and out played tonight.  We lost the 50/50 battle and were out shot 24 to 10.  We lost control of the midfield tonight and we will need to take a look at what we have there.  On the bright side I have to compliment the excellent play of Evan Summy tonight.  It was one of his best games, he played his heart out, and made the game winning goal in the shoot out.  Keep playing hard Evan.  Our lone goal came off of a great 1 2 combination in the second half when Dan Fisher made the perfect pass into Pablo Navarrete on the cross.  Pablo puts it away and we go up 1-0.  Then we go to sleep or something and St Alberts comes on the attack for the next 15 minutes.  They finally manage to tie up the game on a corner kick.  After a game saving save by Riley Landolt with :25 left in the game we manage to hang on and get to OT.  We play both 10 minutes halves of OT and again with 3:55 left in the second OT Riley saves the game with a great diving save.  We go into a shoot out.  At the end of the first 5 shooters we are still tied as we got goals from Adam Larkin, Dan Fisher, and Kyle Herrin.  We now go to sudden death shoot out and we manage to pull it out after they miss with there 9 shooter and Evan Summy puts it away to end the game and to put a mark in the win column.  The other two goals in the shoot out were scored by Chris Navarrete, and Tommy VoMmende.  There will be no rest next week as it will be busy with the possibility of 6 games by the end of the day on Saturday.  We will start out the week with the Mt Michael make up game.  It will be a Varsity only game at 5pm.  This will be an interesting game as well as we lost to them last year 1-0 and they on to an undefeated season and Nebraska State Champs.  Come join us on Monday and cheer on the team.
