2007 Titans
3/29/07 - Mt MichaelGame set to start at 4:30, it is 2:30 and raining. Yup it is opening day, and we are on the road to Mt Michael in Elkhorn NE. By the time we get to Mt Michael the rain has stopped and the clouds are breaking up. Ok, this should be a good night for soccer. The field is slick in places but we play through it, after all it is slick for them too. We certainly showed signs of it being our first game, at times we looked sharp, and at times we looked like we lacked confidence in each other and felt we had to do things alone. We certainly controlled the first half and dominated play. The second half we started to show signs of tiring, went away from our game plan, and started to play kick and run. When we put 4 or 5 passes together they couldn't stay with us. We fell away from it the second half and at times they took over the momentum. Then with 23 seconds in the game they call a foul on us, give out a yellow card and they set it up. They take a shot from 40 yards out, we get to it first and send it back. It bounces around off a few people, we don't clear it out, they hit it from 30 yards out, it loops over Riley's head and hits the back of the net. We claim the game was over but the ref says there 1 second left. What a heartbreak it was. It is not over until it is over. We played well enough to win but again come up short. It was a tough one to lose and hopefully we learned from it. Now we must see how we bounce back and move forward, we can not look back, nor blame anyone but ourselves for the lose. Some kids that played very well tonight and sold out several times were Ryan Cook, Nate Dreager, and Brett Epperson. We have a couple nights of practice then we are on the road again to Atlantic. JV got a chance to play after the Varsity tonight and this was an exciting game to watch. By the end of the game we managed to sub in and play everyone. Right off the bat 1:16 into the game, Justin Carlson is in the right spot to put away a ball that is bouncing around in front of the net after being played in by Jaymison Coffelt. Man it feels good to score and it just gets you going. They tie it up at 1 with our keeper out of position and with it being slick out, looses his footing trying to get to the ball. With 11 minutes in the half Tyler Butler hits a chip shot from 25 to 30 yards out and it sails over the keeper and lands in the net. We are up 2-1 at the half feeling good and having fun. We switch out our keeper for the second half as we have 4 keepers this year so we want to work them all. The second half is a scoring fest as we go back and forth. Justin Carlson gets his second goal of the night off a pass from Ryan Cook. They tie it up at three then the Justin Carlson and Brady Wells duo kick into gear. Two plays within minutes of each other, Justin plays out wide to the right side, sends a cross into the center and with his height, Brady is there to head the ball in both times. It was fun to watch and got everyone pumped. We get called for a foul in their box and the ref awards Mt. Michael with a PK. They make the PK and it is now 5-4. They tie up the game just before the end on a corner kick. Our keeper, Hunter Brugenhemke, calls keeper, comes out, catches the ball, but it spins out of his hands and they are right there to hit it in and tie it up. Good game, fun to watch and would have been a good one to win. Great game by Justin Carlson, 2 goals and 2 assists, and Brady Wells with 2 goals. We made some mistakes as different times and it gave us some ideas of what to work on. Thank you to the parents for your support and for staying with us this year. We want to THANK YOU for all of the meals that you provided the team this year as well. It is a great time for the kids and is a time to build as a team. |
