Spring Tournament 2001

March 24th, 2001

The Spring Tournament, originally scheduled for Stockton had some last minute changes. Tournament Director, John Kimball having broken his hand in a recent snowboarding incident, tearfully withdrew, since he had some major repair/splint apparatus on his left forearm. Rich, Doug and Ken decided to meet locally met at Cuesta for the first tournament of the new year. Since the course was deemed easy for all, no handicaps were used. Two rounds were played at Cuesta Park. Course I was played first and then course II was played from the middle (holes 10-18 followed by 1-9).

Doug took an early lead with a deuce on hole one. Rich and Doug both deuced hole two. Rich and Ken deuced hole four and everybody deuced hole six. Rich continued his streak of deuces on holes seven and eight. Doug and Ken bogeyed hole nine. After nine holes, Rich with 5 deuces had a 22, Doug had a 25 and Ken a 27.

Rich lost a stroke on hole ten as everyone else parred. Doug deuced hole eleven. Then everyone deuced hole twelve and fourteen. Ken and Doug deuced hole seventeen. Rich and Doug finished with deuces on hole eighteen. After one round, Doug had a 25-22, catching Rich, who had 22-25. Ken was under par with a 27-26. Good rounds for all.

Doug and Rich scored deuces on hole three, but Doug fell behind with a bogey on hole four. Ken bogeyed hole five. Hole 7 (usually 16) always separates the players. Doug and Rich both went OB on their second shot while Ken smacked home a spectacular deuce. At hole nine, Ken solidly connected with the Rest Room sign for another great deuce. This nine found Rich and Ken with 27's as Doug tallied a 28. Ken announced that he was needed at home and had to depart early.

Rich and Doug proceeded on the home stretch, with Doug one stroke behind. At hole eleven, Doug caught up with a deuce, then fell behind again on hole twelve as he bogeyed. At hole fourteen Doug charged with a deuce to catch up again, and then lost the lead with a bogey on hole fifteen. Another bogey on hole sixteen sealed Rich's victory as Doug gained no strokes on the final two holes.

Rich's 47-55 was the winning score, as Doug came in with a 47-57.
