Hitmans' SHARPSHOOTER

CAPETOWN -- I like it here in South Africa.

The wrestling fans here -- as in Canada -- still know the difference between right and wrong! I hope by now I've made it clear that I haven't turned my back on all my loyal fans around the world -- and especially here in Calgary!

It's just that insidious group of Americans who look and act like a casting call from the movie No Holds Barred.

I was on RAW trying to drive home the point that too many Americans are ignorant when Shawn Michaels came out to play the self-appointed hero and proceeded to misquote the Constitution of the United States of America. I would like to officially thank Shawn for illustrating my point. Now that I've given Shawn a real knee injury, he can sit home and study a little U.S. history.

Why are Vince McMahon and Jim Ross going on about how I'm so anti - American? It seems like they're trying to convince the American public that I'm `the bad guy from Canada' who has no right to say anything derogatory about Americans! Well, I live in Calgary and I'm proud of my Canadian heritage and I don't appreciate their inference that we Canadians are the bad guys! I don't think they'd be so free with their commentary if I wasn't here in South Africa now. I can assure you, I'll be expecting an explanation when I get back!

Another group of wrestling fans that has really been bugging me lately are the ones who think they know everything about the wrestling business.

Don't you know that people who think they know everything are annoying to those of us who do? These fans think that everything in professional wrestling is phony; that interviews are "scripted" and that matches are "choreographed."

They've actually convinced themselves that everything I've said lately is just a storyline dreamt up by McMahon. and that I have to go along with it because I have a contract with the WWF. I have to tell you "know nothing know-it-alls" that you've got it backwards. Nobody tells me what to say in an interview. I meant every word that I said! A good way to look at it is that McMahon is desperately trying to make my reality into his storyline because I can leave the WWF any time I want.

The way some fans have convinced themselves that McMahon is making me do this is interesting because I think it, once again, stems from the fact that some American wrestling fans simply cannot face the truth. They would rather transfer the blame to Vince than accept that their hero is not pleased with them. I don't even want to be a hero to that segment of the audience any more. It doesn't mean anything to me to be respected by people whose ethics are all twisted.

You "know nothing know it alls" are overlooking the fact that I am proud to be an American!

Confused? My mother is from New York! My grandfather represented the United States as a runner in the 1912 Olympics, and my great great grandfather was a Civil War general.

Although I was raised in Calgary and I still choose to make my home in our great city, I have the privilege of being a duel Canadian/U.S. citizen. I've always enjoyed learning American history.

Even as an adult, collecting Civil War memorabilia is still a hobby of mine. We are fortunate that American history is part of our school curriculum. It's sad that American kids hardly learn anything about Canadians and it's one of the reasons I've tried so hard to be a goodwill ambassador and a good roll model.

I've gotten what I had to say off my chest and I don't intend to keep explaining myself.
