This is spring break week at Bethany College, and several
Swede intercollegiate teams are taking out-of-state road trips. Until
now, adverse weather with snow and cold has caused problems, and the spring
student-athletes are looking forward to climatic changes.
Baseball
Chased by late snows, the Bethany baseball Swedes
left the state with a 5-6 season record last Saturday to play four or five
games during a spring break southern road trip. Last Saturday the
Swede diamondmen were to play the University of Science and Arts "Eagles"
in Oklahoma City. Then they went against Cameron University, and
Swede ace pitcher Clay Witt powered a Bethany 2-1 win over the CU "Aggies."
On Monday the Swedes continued into Texas to play a Monday single game
against St. Edward's University in Austin, and then two games Tuesday at
St. Mary's College in San Antonio.
Head coach Mike Waldie, frustrated with multiple
weather-cancelled games, has been doing all he can to re-schedule matches.
"We need the innings to get ready for conference play," he said.
Back home later this week at Philip Anderson Field,
still during spring break, Bethany will host double-headers with Mid-America
Nazarene College of Olathe on Thursday at 1:00, and will host Mid-America
Bible College of Oklahoma City on Saturday, also at 1:00.
Bethany begins KCAC action next Tuesday at home
at 4:00 p.m. against Friends University, and then the Swedes will step
out of KCAC competition in Wichita next Wednesday at Wichita State University,
at 7:00 p.m.
