Swedes
Dominate Coyotes by Jeff Kelly, Staff Writer Bethany Messenger: Friday, May

The Bethany College Baseball team had a crucial
double header against top rival Kansas Wesleyan University on Saturday.
Nevermind that the Coyotes are the Swedes top rivals,
this was also for a share of the conference lead in the KCAC. The
Swedes did not disappoint.
The Swedes were led off in hitting by a homerun
smash by Senior David Bard. Head Coach Mike Waldie was extremely
happy about his teams efforts in the first game. "KWU his a huge
rivalry. We were down 6-0 with are ace pitcher Clay Witt on the mound.
We could of easily looked ahead to the next game and just quit, but we
didn't We have made some great strides toward being a championship
team." The turnaround was due to great pitching performances by Daniel
Regan and Clint Strassburg. "They came in and did a great job, and
then our bats finally woke up."
In the second half of the double header in Salina,
the Swedes continued to dominate the Coyotes pitching. Jeremy Cantrell
pitched a near perfect, complete game while only giving up six hits.
The Swedes bats were huge as Jason Schmeiser and Nate Sungy crushed two
homeruns. (I still owe Schmeiser a hot dog on a bet because of his
homerun) Bethany will host Sterling to see who will most likely go
away with first place this Saturday afternoon. Also, Freshman Nate
Sungy was named the KCAC Position-Player of the Week in the Conference.
