CHERRYBROOK BULLDOGS HISTORY
CHERRYBROOK BULLDOGS LEAGUE SEASON 4Alex Sutcliffe joined the league in Season 4. It started on the 18th of December 1992. After finishing second last in Season 3, Adrian Grunbach shocked everyone with huge wins. Although his only two losses were both to Richard, Adrian managed to stay in first place with a lead of two points. He needed to win his last game to finish on top, but was 1-2 down to Phillip at half time. With two late goals Adrian won the game 3-2 and took his first title.
Richard had beaten Adrian twice, but his other results lost him the title. After scoring an illegal last second equaliser against Anthony, he allowed the cancellation of his goal and lost 0-1. Another loss against Nick was enough to leave him in second place.
After the now usual 0-0 against Anthony and a shock 0-3 loss to Adrian, Nick Brill had an amazing ending to the season. Victories over every other player, including Richard and Stephen moved him into third spot, four points off the lead.
Anthony Spencer's only two losses were both against Adrian, he beat Richard once, but drew in most of the important games.
With three points for a win and one for a draw, a draw is almost as good as a loss. Just as the rest of the top five, Stephen only lost two matches, but drew the most. Six matches drawn is twelve points lost!
Phillip was expected to be a great threat at the start of the season, but with only four wins, against the bottom two players, he finished sixth. Phil was unable to attend on most days, so he played most of his games in one day and lost them all! Phillip left the league so he could concentrate on the HSC.
After a 0-0 draw with Alex, Ray left the competition at the bottom open right until the end. He managed to score two goals against Phillip, but lost all of his other games, except a 2-0 win over Alex.
Alex Sutcliffe scored in both his games against Adrian, but lost 1-5 and 1-6. He put up a good fight against Ray in their 0-0 draw, but lost the second game. He had 46 goals scored against him.

The qualifying rounds of the League Cup were held over the second half of the season with the Finals played on the 4th of April 1993.
In Group A, Adrian drew 0-0 with Richard, Nick also drew with Richard 1-1. All three had beaten Alex, so it came down to the last game to decide who qualified. In very suspicious circumstances Nick drew 0-0 with Adrian and Richard was knocked out on goal difference!
In Group B, Anthony went unbeaten, he beat Ray 3-0, Phillip 2-1 and Steve 2-0. The surprise result was Ray's 2-2 draw with Phillip.
In the Semi-Finals Nick defeated Anthony 1-0 and Adrian beat Steve 3-2 in a tense match.
In the Third Place Play-Off, Steve came from 1-2 down to score a late equaliser. After about twelve penalties each, Anthony won 2-1.
The Final was very slow and defensive, it ended 1-1. Again in sudden death after about twelve penalties each, Nick made it 3-2 to stop Adrian from winning the double.

The Oral-B attracted thirteen competitors and was held over 3 days. On the Saturday, Nick Brill finished top with a 100% record, beating Richard, Anthony and Adrian. Ray Raffoul managed to draw with Adrian 0-0, he drew 1-1 with Michael Drysdale and beat Fiona Grunbach 3-0. Richard beat Ray 10-0!
Michael drew with Ray and beat Fiona 2-0. Fiona played quite well although losing every game. She scored a goal against Richard in a 1-8 loss, it was captured on video and is now a classic moment in Bulldogs history.
On the Sunday, new player, Stephen Archer scored the fastest goal ever in just 13 seconds against Stephen Wilson. He lost 1-4.
Phillip and Steve W shared the top place, but the competition between the new players was most interesting. Jeff Ogden drew with Matthew Lee 0-0 and Stephen Archer drew 0-0 with Alex Sutcliffe. Jeff then beat Stephen Archer and drew with Alex. Matthew Lee qualified in fourth place because of his better goal difference.
On Sunday the 21st of February 1993 the Finals were played. Only six of the eight players turned up. Anthony beat Steve 2-1, Richard beat Jeff 2-1.
In the Semi-Finals Richard beat Anthony 1-0 and Nick drew with Adrian 1-1. After extra-time, in the sudden death penalty shoot-out, Adrian hit the ball too softly and failed to reach the goal - he lost 2-3.
In the Third Place Play-Off, Anthony scored with 16 seconds left to beat Adrian 1-0.
The Final was between Richard and Nick, it was very close. Richard won it 1-0. That was his third Oral-B title in a row.
