CHERRYBROOK BULLDOGS HISTORY

CHERRYBROOK BULLDOGS LEAGUE SEASON 1

The official Bulldogs League was created on the 27th of November 1990 and was played with the official rules. It consisted of five players and there were two points awarded for a win. The first match played was between Phillip and Richard Short, and Phil won it 6-2. The race for the championship was always going to be between the Wilson brothers, Stephen and Richard. Richard had always been the most successful player in the Club in England, but it was Stephen who won the first match 1-0.

Ben Nemes had some excellent results, mainly due to his slow and defensive play. His most outstanding result was a goalless draw with Richard Wilson, which left Richard further adrift from the top. He only had single goal defeats to Stephen, drew 0-0 with Phillip and beat Richard Short twice.

Phillip played well in his matches, beating his brother twice, beating Ben Nemes 1-0 after their 0-0 draw, and losing 0-1 and 1-2 to Stephen. Against Richard, Phillip lost 1-0, and came back from 0-3 down to just lose 2-3 in the return match.

Richard Short was not as quick to pick up the skills and was beaten by everyone. His defeats against the other new players were quite close, but Richard Wilson thrashed him 9-0 in a match that still stands as a league record high score. At the end of the season, Richard retired from the league.

After Richard Wilson had lost to Stephen and drew with Ben, he was three points off the lead. All Stephen had to do to win the league was draw with his brother, and he did. The final score was 2-2. Stephen Wilson won the first ever Cherrybrook Bulldogs Championship. He won by three points and kept an unbeaten record.

BULLDOGS LEAGUE CUP SEASON 1

The first league Cup was a very small competition, which looked as if it would be dominated by the Wilson brothers. In a qualifying match, the bottom two players at the halfway point in the league played a knockout match. Phillip Short beat his brother, Richard, 1-0.

The draw for the Semi-Finals was crucial in deciding the Final places as the Wilson brothers had to face each other. The match between Stephen and Richard ended goalless, but after extra time Richard won 2-0 and proceeded to the Final. Phillip Short beat Ben Nemes 1-0 in the other match.

In the Final, Richard Wilson coasted to victory with a 4-0 win.
