West Coast League To Start Season On May 12
March 9, 1946 Oakland- In a meeting held here at the High Marine Social Club, the newly-organized West Coast Negro Baseball League got off to a rousing start with the drawing up of a constitution, posting of franchise fees and preparation of a schedule. The league will open May 12.A.M. Saperstein of Chicago and W.S. Welch, former manager of the Birmingham Black Barons, two men who have contributed a great deal to the advancement of Negro major league baseball throughout the country, were in attendance. Saperstein presiding as president of the circuit.
Present at the two-day meeting were Bruce Rowell and Bob Frazier, Seattle; Jesse Owens, Portland; Roy Parker and a Valley group, representing Fresno; Ed Harris, Oakland; Harold "Yellow-horse" Morris, San Francisco; and Carlisle Perry, Los Angeles. Owens is first vice-president, and D.A. Portlock Of Oakland, secretary of the league. Fresno has replaced San Diego in organization of the loop.

July 6, 1946 Breaking through in the last of the eight for four runs, the Seattle Steelheads registered a 6 to 2 victory over the San Diego Tigers in a Pacific Coast (Negro) league ball game in the Girard street lot Wednesday night.A fair-sized crowd that braved threatening weather apparently liked its first peek at the colored brand of professional ball, staying on to the finish.

August 10, 1946 Springfield, Ill - After a tour of the west coast, the Havana La Palomas return to the middle west to hook up with the Seattle Steelheads of the West Coast Negro League.The twin attraction of the La Palomas-Seattle baseball will open at Springfield's Lanphier park on Sunday night, Aug 11, and continue at Borchert Field, Milwaukee, Aug 12; Goodland Field, Appleton, Wis., Aug 13, and Sports Stadium, Duluth, Minn., Aug 15.
