![]() ![]() Old Woody was a contest that the Seattle Times sponsored at area schools each year. There was a wooden frame set up at home plate, and you got to try to throw a ball through the strike zone hole. If you walked the batter, you were done. If you struck out the batter, you continued with a new batter. In theory you could go on forever until you walked someone. The person with the most strikeouts was the winner of a new mitt. Everyone got a ticket to a Seattle ballgame, and their name in the paper. It was a big deal...you had to wait til next year, just like the Brooklyn Dodgers, if you didn't win. |
