![]() Manager That after 21 consecutive years of managing in the Pacific Coast League a man as popular as Lefty O'Doul and a city that loves colorful managers like Seattle should get together was inevitable His history is common knowledge, but a refresher course would include these facts: Seventeen years as manager of San Francisco, winning two pennants, O'Doul holds the record for winning four consecutive Governor's Cup play-offs. Managed San Diego from '52 through '54 and captured pennant in his year with the Padres. Prior to reporting to Seattle, he led the Oakland team, which became Vancouver. Aside from managing, Lefty has etched his name rather indelibly in baseball books. He led the National League in batting twice with .398 in 1929 with the Phillies and .368 in 1932 with Brooklyn. Additionally, in 1929 he broke a NL record by getting a total of 254 hits.
O'Doul is the oldest manager in point of service in the PCL. He boast on of the highest lifetime batting marks - .351 for 24 years of active playing.
