Dubuque Field Archers
September News Letter
The board of directors of the Dubuque Field Archers has
decided to install a water well on the property at the outdoor
range on Hiway 151. this has been needed for sometime, we feel
that by getting this project completed and paid for, it will
reduce the financial burden when we build the indoor range and
clubhouse.
A club meeting has been scheduled for October 11th . At that
time, a full membership vote will be taken to appropriate the
necessary money to pay for the well. Any member wishing to voice
their concerns on this issue or wanting his or her vote counted
should plan to attend.
We are now in the process of getting the temporary indoor
range cleaned and ready for the season. This is located above
the Busted Lift bar on Main Street next to the old indoor range.
Anyone wishing to help can work there anytime from 10:00am until
2:00am when the bar is open. Any questions, please contact me at 557-7634.
A vote was taken at the September club meeting to purchase
some new 3-D targets and new vitals to replace the shot out ones.
The exact number will be determined after a good inventory of
targets can be completed.
We have been approved by the State of Iowa for our tax status
change. This will allow us to request money from the Gaming
profits that are dispersed to the community. This money can be
used for improvements to the ranges and also help us to build
archery programs for the Dubuque area. The club will be under
the watchfull eye by the State for 4 years, at that time it will
be up for review to determine whether we keep this status.
Randy Temperley is in the process of scheduling Terry Wunderle,
A top level archery coach to hold a class at our indoor range.
Terry has coached numerous national Champions, and whose own son
is shooting for the United States Olympic Team in
Sydney Australia. He coaches all aspects of archery, including
bow tuning, set-up, and proper form. Anyone interested in this
class should contact Randy at 747-6358 to reserve your spot.
Terry only takes 20 archers for this class. The cost is $150.00
per archer.
The bowhunter corse has been taken down for the season. Most
of the bag targets were shot-up and we did not have enough spare
targets to replace them. With the season coming to and end and
deer seasom fast approaching, I have decided to close the bowhunter range.
This will allow me to get a good estimate of
the number of targets to order for next season. I would like
to thank all the shooters who participated in the bowhunter
league and helped move the stakes each week. I hope everyone
enjoyed the league this year and I am looking forward to seeing you shoot next year.
There are some old bowhunter target faces left that I saved
which can be used on the carboard target bales for those of you
who want to shoot at animal silhouettes instead of a spot target.
I will put these on the desk in the clubhouse. Please do not use
broadheads on the carboard bales.
When sighting in your hunting bow with broadheads at the
outdoor range please take any targets you bring home with you
and leave the range as clean as you found it.
A work party has been scheduled for September 30th to close up
the outdoor range We will start at 7:00 am.
Our next club meeting is October 11th at the outdoor range
at 7:00 pm.
See you there
Joe Fluhr
