DUBUQUE FIELD ARCHERS JULY 2000 NEWS LETTER Well fellow club members, we are over half way thru another archery season. I hope everyones shooting is improving as you go. Our 3-D shoots have faired pretty well so far with only the August 20th shoot remaining. The June shoot saw 76 paid shooters, 6 with free passes and 6 cubs shooting for a total of 88 shooters. Our July 4th shoot was the best so far with approximately 185 shooters, so things seem to be going in the right direction. We have only the August 20th shoot remaining. We will. be raffling off our 4 wheeler and the last Knight Black Powder rifle at this shoot. Setup will be Saturday- August 19th starting at 7:00am so please put this date on your calendar and give your club some of your time and help out. If you have been out to the outdoor range in the last 2 weeks, you probably noticed the lawn and entrance road getting a little shabby. The yazoo mower has broken down again. The board feels that putting much more money into repairs may prove to be senseless, we think that the clutches for the hydrolic drive are worn out. We talked about hiring out the lawn care for at least the rest of this year and possibly next year as well. Tim Digman told us he would mow the upper yard and roadway for a cost of $50.00 and would mow again for the August 20th shoot at that time he will mow all the ranges and the upper yard and roadway for $ 1 00.00. A motion was made to accept this bid and seconded. So for at least a while, we have the lawn care problem on hold. We ask that all club members please sell the 4-wheeler tickets. This raffle is for the benefit of the club, to help build our account for improvement at the outdoor range. If you feel you can-not sell tickets at least purchase some from another member. Who knows, that ticket might be the winner!!! The Dubuque Field Archers will be staffing a booth at the fair so please lend a hand and help run this booth. If you have some free time that you could spend at the booth, call me at 319 557-7634 and let me know the day and time you can work it. The board has decided to table the discussion on Life Memberships until a solid plan can be worked out. I will keep you informed as to the status as I receive more information. As I told you at the beginning of the year. This last 3-D shoot will also be the bowhunter Championship. The cost to shoot this will be $5.00 3-D fee and $5.00 championship fee. If you feel you want to whip up on a fellow club member, sign up for the championship. I would like to see all our club members take part in this. You never know, it might be your day to shoot straighter than everyones else. Good luck and hope to see you August 20th . I stated earlier in the letter that the archery season is past the halfway point. Time to start thinking about deer season. This is a good time to start clearing shooting lanes, hanging stands. Etc. Please remember to take caution when climbing, wear a safety belt and don't take unnecessary risks. I have never seen any white tail rack worth spending time in the hospital over. The next club meeting is Aug. 16th at 7: 00 pm at the outdoor range.
