DESCRIPTION

There are two things that make QPR such a great club. The first is the wonderful blue and white hooped shirts. Such style is a rare thing in a football kit. The second is the near perfect though small stadium that is Loftus Road. Rangers' Stadium to give it it's official name, is a classic tight, British ground where the stands edge up almost to the touchlines themselves. The goals are barely a yard in depth as they have to be squeezed in at each en, and the whole stadium is enclosed as the stands meet each other at every corner. Three of the fours stands are double deckers, the slightly larger of these, the South Africa Road stand runs along one touchline, and has the obligatory executive boxes in a line across its middle, dividing the tiers. Behind each goal, two matching two-tier stands join up with it. At one end; the Loftus Road end, the home fans congregate and similarly the away fans in the School End opposite them. Finally, completing the enclosure is the single tier, Ellerslie Road stand, a simple construction that rises to meet the roofs of the others. The compactness of the stadium means that almost 20,000 can be accomodated and everyone near enough to feel the excitement, all within a few yards of the pitch. The beauty is completed with every post and panel painted in Rangers' blue. This is what football grounds should be like.

HOW TO GET THERE

By tube, White City is pretty close, by car, head for Shepherds Bush, basically if you can find and get on the A40 going South towards the ground, just after you pass the BBC, turn right into Uxbridge Road, and the ground is about half a mile along, just up the side streets on the right. I've managed to park nearby a couple of times so it's not too bad.

BEST THING ABOUT...

Sitting near the front of any of the upper tiers (especially behind the goal), the view is fantastic, like you are sitting on top of the crossbar.
