OVERVIEW - Wingenroth fields what probably is the youngest team in the league, and, he says, they look it at times. "When we're focused we do real well," he said. Still, the inconsistencies will come fewer and further between, and with this nucleus the Mounts have much to build on.

HEMPFIELD

OVERVIEW - It's been a struggle for the inconsistent Streaks, but it's only halfway through the season. Their experience should push them over the hump, but they won't last long in leagues. Next year could be different with the potent Leed-Saunders combination back.

OVERVIEW - This is the first year Castleman has had more underclassmen come out than the year before. "We can really start to rebuild the program," he said, despite a very depleted lineup this season.

PENN MANOR

OVERVIEW - Including tournaments and the postseason, the Comets won 50 games last year. They won't approach that number this year, but despite the huge personnel losses, Manor should be competitive. They snuck into the semifinals of the Central York tournament last weekend, widely regarded as a harbinger of the state tourney. A revitalized York Area league, though, will make it tough for the Comets to get past districts.

WARWICK

COACH - Barry Derrish.

OVERVIEW - If there was a coach of the year award in the L-L, Derrish would be the early favorite. He lost 10 seniors last year and has his team in second place in the section coming off a big win over Penn Manor last week. Now, if only the Warriors could get over the Hempfield hump.

Section Two

COCALICO

COACH - Sue Wood.

OVERVIEW - If anything, the Eagles are the most focused team in the league. Wood and her team set their goals very high, and it looks like it's paying off - Cocalico is a near lock for leagues.

CON. VALLEY

OVERVIEW - As section favorites last year, the Bucks were toppled by an upstart Garden Spot team. This year, it's CV's turn to play spoiler, but they'll have to wait for the playoffs if they want to derail Lancaster Mennonite.

E-TOWN

OVERVIEW - Sheaf has had an all-section year, but it hasn't done much for the Bears. A great run last year hasn't been duplicated, and the Bears are in desperate need of another hitter or three.

GARDEN SPOT

OVERVIEW - Martin is the only starter back from last year's team, and he's at a new position. Despite the lack of varsity experience, Good still thinks his team can make noise in the league playoffs. Remember, that was the Spartans' modest goal to begin last year and they ended up winning the section.

LANC. MENNONITE

OVERVIEW - The Section Two coaches knew what they were talking about in picking the Blazers to win the section. It's still a tough road to districts, considering the competition in Section One - only five from the L-L can qualify and Mennonite has already lost to Ephrata this season.
