playoffs.
Leading the Section One charge with their second straight title is Hempfield
(14-0 Section One). The Black Knights are led by Amy Ressler, Catie Fisher and
Allison and Audrey Seldomridge.
The Knights earned their stripes with two victories over section runner-up
Manheim Township. In their first meeting on Sept. 6, the Knights defeated the
Blue Streaks, 15-3, 15-8. On Oct. 2, the Streaks took Hempfield to brink of
defeat before falling, 16-14, 12-15, 18-16.
Other Section One teams who clinched L-L playoff berths are Manheim Township
(12-2), Ephrata (9-5) and Cedar Crest (8-6).
In Section Two, Conestoga Valley (14-0) won its eighth straight section
title and is aiming for its seventh straight L-L League championship. The
Buckskins are led by Kim Glass, arguably the league's top player.
CV mowed down its league competition, including two victories over section
runner-up Garden Spot, 18-16, 15-3 on Sept. 4 and 15-3, 15-3 on Sept. 27.
Joining the Buckskins in the playoffs from Section Two will be Garden Spot
(11-3), Cocalico (9-5) and Lebanon Catholic (9-5).
The league playoffs begin on Tuesday at Warwick and Cedar Crest at 4:30 p.m.
The eight teams that clinched playoff berths are broken into two pools and will
play round-robin matches.
Pool A, which plays at Warwick, includes Section One first seed Hempfield,
Section One third seed Ephrata, Section Two second seed Garden Spot and Section
Two fourth seed Lebanon Catholic.
Pool B, which plays at Cedar Crest, will consist of Section Two first seed
Conestoga Valley, Section Two third seed Cocalico, Section One second seed
Manheim Township and Section One fourth seed Cedar Crest.
The top two teams in each pool advance to the semifinals on Thursday at
Ephrata Middle School. The top team from Pool A will play the Pool B runner-up
and Pool B winner will play Pool A runner-up. The winners will play one-half
hour after the semifinals.
