PERSONAL: Thomas Joseph Davey...Single...Graduated from Plymouth Salem High School in Michigan, where he was an All--League and All--District selection in baseball and led the team to the Michigan state championship as a senior while playing first base...Received an Associates Degree in Business from Henry Ford Community College in 1994...Did not begin to pitch until college...Was named to the All--League and All--Region tournament teams...Played Little League ball and in the Livonia Collegiate League.


LAST SEASON: Was 5--3 with 16 saves in 48 games with nine starts for Knoxville (AA)...Made 39 appearances in relief before starting his last nine appearances of the season...In relief was 2--2 with 16 saves and an ERA of 5.70, as a starter was 3--1 with a 2.23 ERA...Held opponents scoreless in his first ten appearances and was 1--0 with five saves over 8.2 innings from April 4 to April 27...In May was 0--1 with three saves and an ERA of 8.68...Rebounded in June with six saves and an ERA of 1.69...After struggling again in July was moved to the starting rotation on July 25...Struck out a season high seven on two occasions, August 7 in Chattanooga (4.0IP) and August 24 vs Birmingham (6.0IP)...First three starts were 3.0 innings, then one at 4.0, two at 5.0 and then finished the season 6.0, 5.0 and 6.1...Was 3--1 at home with 10 saves and a 3.76 ERA and on the road was 2--2 with six saves and a 4.00 ERA...Worked in relief in the Arizona Fall League with Grand Canyon and was 1--0 with one save and a 0.82 ERA in twenty games and held batters to .173 average...Selected by Baseball America as Toronto's seventh top prospect and fourth among pitchers...Pitched for the Grand Canyon Rafters of the Arizona League.


PROFESSIONAL CAREER:

1994: Was signed by Joe Siers after his fifth round selection in the June draft and reported to Medicine Hat of the Pioneer League (A)...Was 2--8 with a 5.12 ERA in 14 games all starts...17 of 59 runs came in one outing over 2.1 innings at Ogden (1ER)...

1995: Opened the season with St. Catharines of the New York Penn League (Rookie) and posted a 4--3 record with a 3.32 ERA in seven starts...Won his last three starts earning a promotion to Hagerstown of the South Atlantic League (A)...Made eight starts with the Suns posting a 4--1 record with a 3.38ERA...Won first start vs Greensboro and his final three starts of the season...

1996: Was 10--9 with a 3.87 ERA in 26 starts for Hagerstown...Threw two complete games and one shutout...Captured Player of the Month honours the first two months of the season after going 4--1, 2.63 ERA in April and 3--1, 1.86 in May...From April 23 to May 25 allowed just seven runs in seven starts...Named to the South Atlantic League mid--season All Star Team...Was just 3--7 from June to the end of the season after starting the season 7--2...Was 7th in the league in walks (91)... Was selected by the Orioles in the Rule V draft on December 9...

1997: Attended Baltimore Orioles spring training camp after being selected from Toronto in the Rule V draft...Returned to the Blue Jays after clearing waivers on March 20...Opened the season with Dunedin (A) where he was 1--3 in seven games, six starts, and posted a 4.31 ERA...Made one relief appearance on April 11...Was his first professional relief appearance after 56 consecutive starts...Start was set back to allow Major Leaguer Paul Spoljaric to start on a rehab assignment...Started 0--2 and then captured first win on April 28 with 8.0 shutout innings despite allowing ten hits...Struck out ten in six innings on May 8 versus Daytona in his final start prior to promotion to AA Knoxville...In 20 games, 16 starts with Knoxville was 6--7 with a 5.83ERA...Started 2--1 but then lost four straight decisions...In June made three appearances in relief before returning to the rotation...Rebounded in August posting a 3--1 record with a 6.66ERA...On the year struck out 108 batters in 132.1 innings with both clubs.
