Carroll just misses out on mile record!

Mark Carroll takes 2 seconds off PB!

Hicham El Guerrouj on his way to victory in yesterday`s Bislett Grand Prix in Oslo.Mark Carroll finished in 7th place.
July 28, Oslo, Norway

Ireland`s Mark Carroll slashed two seconds off his best but it was still not enough to break Ray Flynn`s long standing national record. In a somewhat slow winning time, Morroco`s Hicham el Guerrouj was the expected winner in a time of 3:46.24.He did not make history in his attempt to break his own world record but was a comfortable winner.Mark finished back in 7th place but a time of 3.50.62 is a new personal best for the Corkman.Even though 7th doesn't sound very good he was in the thick of it for much of the race and by the end less than .5 of a second separated him from Canadian Kevin Sullivan.Mark now participates in a 5,000m race in Stockholm where he can hopefully dip under the magical 13 minute mark.
