Darren embarked on a hectic and tiresome season in his attempt to gain the qualifying entry into Sydney.Having surprised many with his 1:47.35 at the NCAAs in America but this was only the beginning.On returning home to Ireland he smashed his personal best for the 3rd time this year when he ran 1.46.88 at the Dublin International for 6th place.Having achieved the B standard he set out on his conquest which took him to Sweden, Germany and Italy but it was to no avail as Darren simply could not better his previous effort.He ran 5 races in 4 weeks but it was no joy.
Darren announced his retirement from athletics as he plans to take up a job in an Investment Bank in Boston at the tender age of 23.He will be sorely missed as he was a great talent who will be remembered only for this season.
