1500 Meters

Review of the Irish Runners Year
The Irish scene in the 1500 meters was not as good as the 800 last year.Niall Bruton, who was been suffering with an injury, did well to make it through to the 1500meters final in Budapest.Mark Carroll was the fastest Irishman, though, but concentrated on the longer distances this year.James McIlroy won the Nationals beating Niall Bruton in a sprint finish.Andrew Walker was third.Marcus O`Sullivan was the third fastest overall and Paul Flemming did well to win the National Indoor.Colm McClean did his country proud by finishing 6th in the final of the World Junior Championships in Annecy.Overall it was a quiet year.

Review of the International Runners Year Hicham El-Guerrouj was the story of 1998 winning all 13 out of 13 races he had this year.In Rome he took 1.27 seconds off Morceli`s record with a time of 3.28.95.In Europe Spain dominated the 1500m scene in Budapest with Reyes Estevez winning from Fermin Cacho.
