Triples lead way in high scoring stakes

Lindsay Wright and Alysia Hayward scored a thrilling win in the 7th annual Orange Tenpin Bowling Association Adult-Junior Doubles handicapped tournament last Sunday at the Orange Tenpin Bowl.
Wright and Hayward bowled well above their entering averages to tip out Chris and Mark Holle by just six pins with Chris Collins and Tim Irwin a close third.
Lindsay Wright bowled games of 180-174-136 to finish a total of 118 pins over his usual 124 average while Alysia Hayward, also on a 124 average, bowled games of 126-137-147.
The runners-up also out-bowled their entering averages by a considerable amount. Mark Holle shot 123-163-136, which was 101 above his 107 average while Chris Holle rolled 130-126-132, compared to his 110 average.
Chris Collins and Tim Irwin weren't quite able to peg back the huge handicap advantage the first two teams held but bowled well with Collins rolling 200-210 and Irwin 203-201.
Just outside the top three was the combination of Keith and Kiel Bugden while rounding out the top ten were Judy Louie/Ben Lees, Marie Rosser/Kristen Byrnes, Les Gunner/Karen Hutchings, John Cooney/Steve Grabham, Frank McGovern/Greg Perry and Marie and Jason Brown.
A total of 28 teams lined up for the always-popular tournament.
While the lower average players finished at the top of the standings there were quite a few good scratch games bowled including Jason Brown with 227-218-201 for a nice 646 block. Other notable efforts came from Kiel Bugden 204, John Cooney 228, Les Gunner 206, Bob Waddell 207 and Greg Perry with the tournament high 257.
The annual Orange Tenpin Bowling Association presentation day barbecue followed the tournament.
The O.T.B.A. annual general meeting was also held last Saturday and association president Henry Phillips and secretary Marilyn Schwenke were presented with plaques of appreciation for their continuous service and dedication to the sport of tenpin bowling. The pair has served on the board for 15 and 14 years respectively.

David Hayward was in good form in the Friday Triples as he led the way on a high coring night, bowling games of 226-268 for a 679 series.
There were another two top games bowled with Tim Irwin and Mark Lijic both shooting a 266 game. Lijic also added a 201 for a 644 series while Irwin managed a 605 series for the evening.
Mario Mastronardi rolled games of 201-206 for a 601 series while Jason Belmonte shot 242-212 for a 646 trio.
Other good games from that league were bowled by Aldo Belmonte 235, Renae Caltabiano 218, Peter Chilcott 200, Chris Collins 221, Les Gunner 201, Warren Handel 215, Tony Richards 209 and Stan Streatfeild 221.
Steve Reil maintained his good form to extend his lead in the Monday Scratch Singles, bowling games of 237-204-224-215 for a 1254/6 series.
Jason Belmonte rolled 210-233-212 while Les Gunner shot 225 and Wally Price 220. Jim Dullaway started brilliantly with games of 256-209-214 (679/3) before fading.
Jason Belmonte did well in the Wednesday Doubles with a 253 ahead of David Hayward 247, Henry Phillips 223-248, John Rapley 237, Sharon Trudgett 205, Dianne Gee 204, Jan Peters 221 and Tim Irwin 233-210.
Irwin backed up for a 246 in the Wednesday 7:30 league while Tony Bloomfield rolled games of 215-216.
David Rosser bowled a 238 in the Wednesday 10am Mid State League while Craig Perry and John Rapley also bowled well with 228 and 224 respectively. Perry also bowled a 212 in the Friday 6:30 league.
High games from the Tony Leahey Ford Monday 10am Triples included Daphne Stojanovic 211, Marilyn Schwenke 207 and Rachael Selmes 202.
Debbie Seers bowled a personal best 244 game in the Tuesday Ladies Singles while other good games were rolled by Dianne Gee 235-201, Lyn Handel 220, Judy Streatfeild 213 and Sharon Trudgett 230.
Matt Dwyer bowled a personal best 218 in the Wednesday Juniors while Leo McKay shot 216-210 in the Golden Oldies.
Bob Taylor was impressive in the Monday 6:30 league with a personal best 231 game. Kel Merchant bowled 204 and Richard deRooy 205 while Andy Scully maintained his great form of the last month with a 205 game.
Personal best games this week were bowled by Christopher Mason 146, Julie Jensen 167, Doreen Thurtell 182, Jenny Rout 156 (50 over average), Jessica Wright 128, Abel Trindade 121, Cameron Riley 120, Wade Selwood 169, Kimmy Mackin 141, Paige Keegan 126, Tom Willox 134 and four year old Tye Wiseman with 107.
The Central West Pennants annual general meeting will be held at the Dubbo Tenpin Bowl tomorrow while the Blacktown Bowl hosts the Western Open this weekend. The Brunswick Australian Cup will be held at the Canberra International Bowl in Tuggeranong next weekend.
The Australian International Youth Championships are scheduled for the Manhattan Super Bowl in Mascot from 6-10 January next year.
Other upcoming events include the Christmas No-Tap tournament with qualifying commencing during the week. Bowlers roll four games to decide the top twenty players who will contest the ten game final on 24 January.
Players with an average of 180 and over will use the eight no-tap format while others need only knock down a minimum of seven pins for their shot to count as a strike.
The 10th annual New South Wales Country Championships will be bowled in Orange from 30 January to 7 February next year and features singles, doubles and team action as well as the Country Masters.
