Orange in final round of pennants qualifier

The long awaited sixth and final qualifying round of the Central West Tenpin Pennants series between Orange and Bathurst will be held this weekend.

The round was postponed from earlier in the month due to flooding in Bathurst.

A revised player list wasn't displayed at the time of writing this column, so it's assumed the original team selections stand with the following players therefore representing Orange this round:

The final of the tri-city Pennants competition won't be held until 8 November due to other tournaments and competitions over the next two months.


The 15th annual Orange Tenpin Bowling Association Inc. City Championships are rapidly approaching with action set to commence on 12 September in both adult and junior divisions.

There will be the usual singles, doubles, mixed doubles and teams events as well as the Teams Challenge, with a separate prize list, on 13 September.

Pee Wee bowlers are also catered for with the Gutter Stopper Championships, a tree game singles event in boy and girl sections to be held on 20 September.

Championship action winds up on 27 September.

The Saturday night doubles no-tap competition continues tonight and again each week until the end of October with a Getaway holiday up as first prize.

A reminder that entries for the 37th annual National Championships close on Tuesday.

The Nationals are being held at the Gold Coast Super Bowl this year from 3-17 October.



Aldo Belmonte is this week's start bowler following a 714 series, his first over 700, in the Friday Triples. Belmonte lifted his league average to an impressive 201 mark following games of 232-214-268.

Mark Lijic who holds down the centre's current high average of 204 bowled well with games of 214-245 for a 639 series.

Another to crack 600 on a high scoring night was the in-form Jason Brown who started with a 147 shocker but came back with 279-204 for a 630 series. Peter Brown, fresh from a lengthy round Australia trip made 615 on his second league appearance back.

After a rusty first week Brown improved with games of 208-214 for a 615 trio.

"Porky" has just been announced as the Bowl's new in-house coach and pro shop operator.

Other good games included June Bryant 202-206, Melissa Johnston 230, Anthony Knudsen 211, Henry Phillips 222, Steve Reil 226, Tony Richards 203, Stan Streatfeild 233, Jonathan Thatcher 201, Mario Mastronardi 204-213 and John Cooney 212-224.

Cooney returned in the Wednesday Doubles where he fired off a nice 257 game. Other good scores in that league came from Sharon Trudgett 213-205 (610/3), Chris Collins 204, Dianne Gee 203, Henry Phillips 2-1, Kermit Price 205-221 and Brian Dinsmore 205.

In the Wednesday 7:30 league high games were bowled by Bruce Clements 214, Colin Edwards, Alan Collins 223, Kel Merchant 213, Jason Osborne 244, Trev Connerty 233, Peter Bryson 200, Kevin Carr 203 and Ian Carr 208.

Jan Peters and Frank McGovern both rolled a 223 in the Monday Mixed Singles ahead of Phil Blakeley 214 and Carl Bishop 201.

After stunning form the previous fortnight in the Monday Scratch Singles Jason Belmonte struggled big time this week, managing just a 213 in his final game and finishing an unbelievable 300 pins less than the previous round.

Topping the scores was Jim Dullaway with 224-206 (608/3) ahead of Steve Reil 205-213-233, Les Gunner 225-224. It was the worst scoring night in the league's history with a miserly eight 200 games compared to the usual 20 or above.

John Ryan bowled a nice 214 game in the Monday Seniors while Doreen Brennan rolled a 201 game. In the Monday 6:30 league high games came from Mark Lennard 214, Scott Spears 227 and Bill Miles 203.

Continuing with Monday leagues, Keith Bugden shot 234-202 in the Tony Leahey Ford 10am Triples.

In the Thursday 10am league Jeff Mullins bowled a 208 game while David Birt had a 201.

Karen Sharp fired an excellent 245 in the Tuesday Ladies Singles ahead of Sharon Trudgett 207, Bonnea Wiseman 202 and Lyn Handel 202. In the Tuesday 6:30 league Brian Reedy bowled a personal best 211 game and 583/3 series.

Colin Edwards shot a 236 in the Sunday Restricted Singles with other good efforts coming from James Dubbelde 213, Suzanne Dubbelde 227 and Chris Fuller while in the Sabbath league high games were bowled by Terry Hetherington 208 (personal best), Bob Waddell 202 and Des Woodin 227.

Personal best games this week included Fleur Parra 12, Tamara Garrison 138, Cameron Burley 183, Joshua Jones 131, Lauren Streatfeild 101, Amy Brooks 122, Jenny Kelly 176, Tracy McGregor 180 and Julia McBride 193-194.
