Brown lights up lanes with brilliant block

Jason Brown is this week's star bowler from the Orange Tenpin Bowl, following a brilliant effort in the Thursday Singles where he rolled a 956 four game series.

After an opening 195, Chuck turned it on with games of 256-279-226, closing the night with a handy 761 set.

Junior David Rosser fired a hot 266 game in the same league and came up with an 814/4 series while Allan Collins shot 234-211 for an 806/4 series. Also doing well on a high scoring night were Chris Collins 211-204, John Cooney 204, Jim Dullaway 204-222, John Rapley 201-226 and Peter Rosser 201-206.

Jason Belmonte blitzed his opponents in the Monday Scratch Singles for the second consecutive week, this time finishing almost 200 pins clear of his nearest rival as he assumed top spot on the league ladder for the first time this year.

Belmonte reeled off games of 227-200-211-221-248-207 for a 1314 six game block. Other high games came from Les Gunner 202, Allan Collins 219-226, Jim Dullaway 206-210, Tim Irwin 209, Joe Werner 237 and Chris Collins 209.

Ross Caltabiano was in great shape in the Friday Triples where he rolled gams of 274-219 for a 682 series, Mark Lijic also unleashed an excellent 277 game as part of a 640 series while John Rapley shot 610 after a high game of 221.

Other good games were bowled by Jason Belmonte 214-234, June Bryant 215-202, Tim Irwin 200 twice, Melissa Johnston 216, Mario Mastronardi 202, Jason Osborne 202-246, Steve Reil 205, Stan Streatfeild 245 and Ray Tyquin 222.

Jenni Huthnance bowled a personal best 224 game in the Monday Mixed Singles ahead of Clare Hodgson 212, Jonathan Thatcher 219 and Lorraine Swain 212-202.

The Tuesday Ladies Singles saw Karen Sharp bowl 224-236 while others of note were Rhearne Trudgett 208, Sharon Trudgett 226, Melanie Brown 200, Dianne Gee 214 and Val Irwin 210.

Greg Almond rolled a personal best 213 in the Saturday Juniors while high games from the Friday 10am league included Craig Perry 228, Allan Manning 209 and Trevor Auliff 200.

Auliff was also in good form on Sunday, firstly shooting201 in the Restricted Singles then 213 in the Doubles where Danny Ross also fired a 200 game. In the Friday 6:30 league Paul West bowled a 205 game.

Personal best efforts this week included Michael Dunsworth 193, Kristy Goodlock 195, Duncan Jepson 121, Katy Maw 124, Wade Selwood 121, Elizabeth Hollie 134 and Tammy Madden 186.



Upcoming events include the sixth and final qualifying round of the Central West Pennants between Orange and Bathurst which was postponed from earlier this month due to the Bathurst floods.

The Pennants final, originally scheduled for next week, has been pushed back to 8 November.

Bowlers can avail themselves to a Getaway Holiday, first prize in the seven no tap competition running each Saturday night until the end of October.

Entry forms are now available for the Orange City Championships which will be held over two weekends next month, firstly 12-13 September then 26-27 September.

September is also tenpin's debut in the Commonwealth Games. Bowling is scheduled for 13-16 September in singles, doubles and mixed doubles.

Chasing gold for Australia will be Cara Honeychurch (Victoria), Maxine Nable (New South Wales), Frank Ryan (Victoria) and Michael Muir (Western Australia).

The second of three segments of the A.T.B.C. Commonwealth Tenpin Celebrity Challenge will be screened on The Wide World Of Sport on WIN tomorrow and features Maxine Nable and Andrei Kravtosv (Gymnastics) taking on Michael Muir and Liz Ellis (Netball).
