Will Harvey is this week's star bowler following a couple of impressive efforts at the Orange Tenpin Bowl over the past seven days.
Harvey, the A grade champion at last year's Orange City Championships is obviously priming himself for a defence of that title next month. In the Wednesday 7:30 league he fired a big 246 game that came on top of a 627 series in the Sunday Sabbath league, comprising games of 236-203.
Last year's B grade City Champion, Jonathan Thatcher has been in good form recently and continued during the week with a hot 258 in the Sunday Doubles and a 204 in the Sunday Restricted Singles.
Other noteworthy efforts from the above-mentioned leagues included Bob Waddell 225, Frank McGovern 212, Trevor Auliff 216, Garry Johnson 204, Chris Fuller 212, Joanne Sullivan 211, Allan Collins 200 and Cindy Clements 223.
Clements also did well in the Monday 10am Triples with a 211 game while Marilyn Schwenke had a 221 game.
In the newly reformed Tuesday Ladies Singles Schwenke rolled a 243 game to finish ahead of Melanie Brown 235, Dianne Gee 212, Sharon Trudgett 211 and Gwen Britt 200.
Junior Chris Lees is another in-form player at present and he rolled a 216 in the Wednesday 4:30 league.
Glenn Robinson topped the scoring in the Wednesday Doubles with 222-200-201 (623) while other good games included Debbie Seers 205, Sharon Trudgett 204, Mick Moorby 225-216, Pat Cass 201, Dianne Dean 202 and Keith Dean 200.
Tim Irwin fired a 246 in the Wednesday 7:30 league ahead of Jason Osborne 224, Colin Edwards 201 and Joe Werner 203.
Carl Bishop shot 601/3 in the Friday 10am league while Kevin Turner turned in a 200 in the Tuesday 6:30 league. High games in the Friday 6:30 league were bowled by Craig Woodley 205 and Peter Smee 216.
There were six 600 series in the Friday Triples, including a couple that were butchered. In fact it was surprising the number of inconsistent players who shot one or two big games then struggled in the next game.
Leading the pack was Jason Osborne with 258-201 (646) just in front of Warren Handel who shot 642 after a 214 triplicate. Mark Lijic rolled 214-216 for a 620 block.
Chris Collins fired 254-204 but his middle game was a shocker as he amassed a 602 series while Henry Phillips also did well in two games with 211-244 before a forgettable third game and a 604 series.
Tony Richards was another in mixed form, opening with a 237 as he barely made 600/3.
Other "flash in the pan" efforts came from Rebecca Belmonte 232, Des Britt 200, Gwen Britt 255, John Cooney 209-201, Ross Caltabiano 226 and Mario Mastronardi 233.
If you consider not making 1200 struggling, players struggled in the Monday Scratch Singles. With league play now on lanes 1-6 things are much closer across the board, which makes for a more interesting league. Mark Lijic just missed 1200/6 after games of 207-216-235 (837/4) to narrowly edge David Rosser who shot 236-203 (606/3).
Other scores included Jason Belmonte 225-211 (626/3), Jason Brown 215-201 (605/3), Wally Price 200-212 (608/3), Mario Mastronardi 204-214, Les Gunner 203, Tim Irwin 212, June Reil 200, Rebecca Belmonte 207 and Bindy Irwin 202.
Personal best games this week were bowled by Chris Morrison 182, Scott Dinsmore 166 (60 over average), Rachel Passor 128 and Brian Clements 136.
