Orange junior Jason Belmonte was in sensational form on his home lanes as he averaged a Pennants record 230 in winning seven of his eight matches as the Junior Boys team swept to a huge 54 points win against opponents Dubbo.

Belmonte was in incredible form as he reeled off games of 232-223-257-231 (712/3 and 943/4) in the morning session before returning for the afternoon block with games of 235-212-218-234 (899/4) for an eight game tally of 1842.

Belmonte’s teammates also did well as Greg Perry finished with a 187 average ahead of Tim Irwin on 181 and David Rosser on 177. High games from that trio included Perry 213-217-213, Irwin 227 and Rosser 204.

With the home-lane advantage the Orange men’s twos led all the way for a 14 point win over Dubbo and were best served by New South Wales State team-mates Jim Dullaway and Chris Collins who averaged 184 and 183 respectively, with Collins' six victories being his team’s best effort.

Dullaway rolled high games of 209-200 while Collins shot 209-201. Bob Waddell averaged 167 for Orange while Trevor Auliff finished on a 163 mark.

In an upset, Orange accounted for Dubbo by 22 points in the men’s threes with all players bowling around the same mark. William Harvey topped the list on 165 just ahead of Brian Shaw 164, Colin Edwards 162 and Paul Chappelow 156. Shaw’s seven wins set the standard while Harvey bowled the high game of 229.

It was sweet revenge for Orange who had been crushed by Dubbo in their previous encounter.

The Orange men’s ones got off to a slow start against Dubbo and were never really in the hunt, going down by the considerable margin of 21 points. All players were below their best, led by Jason Osborne who averaged 178 ahead of Allan Collins 170, Henry Phillips 169 and Les Gunner 160.

Osborne rolled high games of 224-203-200 while the only other notable game came from Gunner with an even 200.

Orange had beaten Dubbo in their previous two meetings this year in the number four division but the tables were reversed in the final with Dubbo scoring an eight point victory when it mattered. Orange got off to a bad start, losing the first three matches, which ultimately proved to be their undoing.

For Orange Andrew Lennard averaged 162 and won six games in a good effort while other averages were Allan Kinghorne 154, Frank McGovern 150 and Leo McKay 149.

The Orange women’s number one team was dominant all year and finished the season in style with a brilliant 34-point win over archrivals Bathurst. Marilyn Schwenke did best to average 177 and win seven of eight matches. Sharon Trudgett averaged 170 ahead of Julie Wilson 163 and Maree Brown who succumbed to the Bathurst blues with a 139 average. Trudgett’s 213 was the lone high game.

The Orange women’s twos caused a boilover, beating Bathurst for the first time this year to claim the title. Niki Stones was in great touch, averaging 175 and winning seven matches. Including a 212 effort. Clare Hodgson also bowled well to win six games with an average of 161 while other winning members were Jenni Huthnance and Lyn Egan who both averaged 137.

Bathurst beat Orange by 16 points in the number four division with Julia McBride and Tanya Werner both averaging 137 for Orange. Kath Aurisch meanwhile averaged 129 and Denise Eslick finished with a 124 mark for the day.

Orange was too good for Bathurst in the Junior Girls grade, winning by 22 points. Averages for the Orange team were Rhearne Trudgett 160, Melanie Brown 156, Rebecca Belmonte 151 and Tahnia Seers 150. Seers had the best winning percentage, grabbing six victories from her eight matches. Trudgett’s 200 was the best game for her team.

In the number three division, the only grade where Orange missed a finals berth, Bathurst beat Dubbo by 27 points.

The Pennants Annual General Meeting will be held in Dubbo on 6 December commencing at 11am.

Jason Belmonte continued his amazing Pennants form with some other great efforts during the last week.

In the Friday Triples he rolled games of 233-233-201 for a hot 667 series then followed it with scores of 205-200-231 for a 636 series in the Wednesday Autostyle Doubles.

Sandwiched between those efforts was the Monday Singles where Belmonte was in mixed form, shooting 223-208-237 as well as three other ordinary games.

Steve Reil was the hot bowler in that league and after a bad first game fired 202-213-213-202-222 for a sound 1210 six game block, coming home with 1052 for the last five.

In the same league high games were bowled by Les Gunner 213, Tim Irwin 238, Joe Werner 208, John Cooney 200, John Rapley 201-232 and Wally Price 203-245 (636/3).

Going back to the Friday Triples, June Bryant was also in excellent form, shooting games of 237-205-213 for a nice 655 series. Others to crack the 600 barrier were Melanie Brown 213-205 (601), John Cooney 225-218 (604) and Tim Irwin 230-204 (613).

Ross Caltabiano 201, Lyn Handel 200, Mark Lijic 219, Henry Phillips 244, John Rapley 200 and Ray Tyquin 200 also recorded decent games.

High games in the Wednesday Doubles were bowled by Phil Blakeley 218, Wally Price 223-213, Debbie Seers 213, John Cooney 205, David Hayward 213-220, Glenn Robinson 213, Henry Phillips 225, Dianne Gee 218 and Jim Dullaway 200.

Ray Tyquin shot a 206 game in the Wednesday 7:30 league ahead of a 203 from Colin Edwards.

Lyn Handel led the way in the Tuesday Ladies Singles with a 214 ahead of Dianne Gee 211, Julie Wilson 203 and Melanie Brown 202.

Other high games during the week were bowled by Lyn Egan 212 in the Monday Mixed Singles, Andrew Scully 214 in the Monday 6:30 league, Ray Parkes 215 in the Friday 6:30 league, Kiel Bugden 217 in the Saturday Juniors and Brian Penrose a personal best 222 in the Sunday Singles.

Tammie Lennard 189, Jenny Kelly 189 and Evan Jackson 167 bowled personal best games this week.

The 3rd annual Ron Boulton Marine & Cycles and Harvey Norman Orange Junior Cup will be bowled tomorrow commencing at 10am.

Held in scratch and handicap divisions, prizes on offer include a mountain bike for first place and electrical good for the second to fourth placed finishers.

A preliminary country versus city challenge is scheduled for tonight at 7:30 p.m.

Other upcoming events include the Country Challenge state finals next weekend followed by the 7th annual Adult-Junior Doubles on 29 November where there’s been a great response to date with around sixteen teams already entered.

The Orange Tenpin Bowling Association Annual General Meeting will be held on 28 November and the annual barbecue follows the adult-junior tournament the next day.

Also coming up is the Western Open at Blacktown on 5-6 December, the Brunswick Australian Cup at Tuggeranong on 12-13 December and Australian International Youth Championships at Manhattan Bowl from 6-10 January next year.

Finally, a big thank you to guest writers Peter Brown and John Cooney who did a great job over the past four weeks.
