A number of Orange bowlers met with success in the recent New South Wales State Tenpin Bowling Championships at the Bankstown Bowl in Sydney.

Coming on top of his recent great win in the New South Wales Veteran Masters, John Rapley also claimed first place in the B Grade Mixed Doubles with wife Margaret.

Orange also claimed first place in the Ladies' A Grade Teams event thanks to a top effort from Clare Hodgson, Rhearne Trudgett, Debbie Seers and Sharon Trudgett on a score of 1927.

There's a distinct lack of other news from the Orange Tenpin Bowl this week with the results from last week's Pennants round between Orange and Bathurst not provided.

That didn't stop the high games though with Jason Belmonte again prominent.

The junior star bowled well in the Monday Scratch Singles where scoring was up on the previous week. He shot a high game of 278, best of the week, as well as 233-212-208 for a hot 1127 five game block. His sixth game was lacklustre and he finished the night with a 1290/6 series.

David Hayward subbed for the league leader and held his own, compiling a 1230/6 series but outscoring Belmonte on the points ladder. The deaf champion rolled games of 237-230-214.

Mick Moorby started slowly but finished well, shooting 222-254 for a closing 669 trio.

Chris Collins shot 204-202 (602/3) while other good games came from Wally Price 221, June Reil, Steve Reil 201,Tim Irwin 222 and Bindy Irwin 204-211.

Jason Osborne was in fine touch in the Wednesday 7:30 league with a nice 275 game while Steve Halls bowled a 231 game.

Marlene Stibbard bowled a 200 game in the Monday 6:30 league while earlier in the day, in the 10am Triples; Marilyn Schwenke fired a 208 while Elizabeth Forbes bowled a personal best 123 game.

In the Friday 10am league Matthew Hutchinson and John Rapley both rolled a 214 game while Kelly Marshall had a PB 141.

Rapley also made an appearance in the Sunday Sabbath League and came up with a 220 while Jo Sullivan had a 209.

In the Sunday Singles Trevor Auliff bowled a 203 ahead of Mick Moorby 201. In the Sunday Doubles Jonathan Thatcher shot 217 and Frank McGovern 206.

Full scores from the Friday Triples weren't supplied but a bracket competition conducted in that league was won by Jason Belmonte after games of 208-223. Other scores in the bracket included Mario Mastronardi 223, Tony Richards 242 and Aldo Belmonte 257.

Mark Lijic shot a 647 series.

Jason Belmonte was in great touch in the Wednesday Doubles with 225-266 for a 687 block.

Others to rate a mention were Mitchell Carter 203, David Smith 207, Sharon Trudgett 209-200, Anthony Ruggiero 211, David Hayward 215-214 (624), Wendy Crisp 201 and Ian Hazzard 205.

World champion Maxine Nable will be conducting two coaching clinics at the Tenpin Bowl on Tuesday.

The first clinic will be at 9:30am for bowlers with a disability while a junior talent identification clinic starts at 11am.

Maxine Nable won a gold medal at last year's Commonwealth Games and then went on to win the 1998 AMF World Cup, the ultimate achievement for an amateur bowler.

The inaugural 1999 Central West Ladies Cup is fast approaching and will be held on Sunday 25 July from 10am.

The eight game tournament features both scratch and handicap divisions with the winner of each collecting a cup, shirt and $200 cash.

In Professional Bowlers' Association news, Tommy de Lutz won this week's AC-Delco Classic at the Cal Bowl on Lakewood in California.

De Lutz defeated Tony Reyes in the final match ahead of five times bowler-of-the-year Walter Ray Williams, Steve Hoskins and Chris Barnes.

Steve Neff meanwhile won the latest PBA Seniors event, the North-West Classic in Beaverton, Oregon. Neff defeated Pete Couture in the final while rounding out the top five were Mike Durbin, Dale Eagle and Butch Soper.

Finally, a segment on tenpin bowling will be featured on the O'Loghlin Show tonight on the ABC at 9:30pm. The segment was filmed during last week's New South Wales Open Masters and includes interviews with Andrew Frawley and Sam Romeo.
