Bowling In The Movies
Tenpin Bowling has rarely been the subject of an entire movie although the sport has been featured (however briefly) in countless films. Following are four movies where bowling is the key subject matter:
The Big Lebowski
The Big Lebowski, a creation of the brilliant Coen Brothers is one of the first movies that takes bowling seriously, where the main character, The Dude, sees bowling as the philosophical centre of his life. The movie stars Jeff Bridges, John Goodman and the amazing Steve Buscemi.
Donny was a good bowler, and a good man. He was. . . He was one of us. He was a man who loved the outdoors, and bowling, and as a surfer explored the beaches of southern California from Redondo to Calabassos. And he was an avid bowler. And a good friend. He died--he died as so many of his generation, before his time. In your wisdom you took him, Lord. As you took so many bright flowering young men, at Khe San and Lan Doc and Hill 364. These young men gave their lives. And Donny too. Donny who. . . who loved bowling.
Kingpin
A comedy starring Bill Murray and Randy Quaid that doesn't treat bowling too badly.
Sorority Babes In the Slimeball Bowlorama
A Z grade horror movie set entirely in a bowling centre and starring scream queen Linnea Quigley.
Dreamer
The first serious bowling movie just doesn't cut it with a wimpy Tim Matheson.
Bowling has been featured in dozens of movies such as:
- Greedy Michael J Fox as a pro bowler!
- Buffalo 66
- Racing With The Moon
- The Flintstones John Goodman again
- Uncle Buck Includes a funny bowling centre scene with John Candy
- My Girl 2
- Return To Me Watch X-Files star David Duchovny throw a gutter ball!
